Moon Ecuador by Julian Smith and Jean Brown Certain countries often have one site or attraction that pops to mind when mentioning that country. For Ecuador it is certainly the Galapagos Islands but this country has so much more to offer than these famous Islands. Moon Ecuador covers each of this country's major regions well including the coastal zones, the great mountains of the Northern Andes and the jungles east of the Andes. The capital … [Read more...]

Culebra Island, Puerto Rico
Semana Santa can be a crazy time in Latin countries in April - especially on beach destinations or on airplanes where seating sometimes becomes quite limited. Yesterday we experienced the craziness on small Culebra Island, 18 miles off shore from mainland Puerto Rico and only 12 miles from St. Thomas and the US Virgin Islands. Flamenco Beach has been voted one of the top beaches in the Caribbean by several publications. Usually its pure white … [Read more...]
The Wizard of Christchurch
EVERYONE knows J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed entirely on location downunder by Kiwi director Peter Jackson. But did you know that a real sorcerer, a magi of magic realism straight out of the Oscar-winning series, only rather recently left New Zealand after the nasty Christchurch Earthquake of 2011. Last week I did just that... Cabin in Tulum to which I have frequently run away to I have never been one of those people who can run a hot bath, soak and be magically refreshed and focused for the following week of my life - simply not me. I was always a shower … [Read more...]
Walking the Walk in NYC
On a recent visit to New York City, I followed in the footsteps of immigrants, celebrities, and George Washington by taking a fun, educational and free walking tour provided by NYC by Foot. Their "Historic District" tour began at Spring Street and 6th Avenue, conveniently across from the subway station. The two hour walk covered about 1.2 miles of Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy - an area that includes part of the historic Five Points District. … [Read more...]
Hacienda Campo Rico – Puerto Rico
We visited Hacienda Campo Rico today minutes from central San Juan in Puerto Rico. This 2000 acre plus "ranch" is home to several companies offering a variety of activities. After hopping on ATV's we ripped through the ranch, screaming through tall grass fields until reaching hills. Rocky, limestone, steep and rough were key components of driving here. We thought we had received our adrenaline boost for the day. Wrong, the Argo Amphibious … [Read more...]
