Greek phones are operated by Organismos Tilepikoinonion Ellados. If you follow some simple steps when using a Greek telephone your calling experience will be much easier than trying to pronounce the name listed above!

The telephone system is modern and up to date. The best way to make calls is to purchase phone cards from any tourist shops from 1,500 to 11,500 drachma depending on minutes available. These cards are widely available at tourist shops.

Look for the "i" button on the top left of the dialing panel. This will give you instructions in English. Make sure you leave your phone card in until you are told to remove it. Otherwise you might lose any remaining credit on the card. The Greek domestic operator can be reached by dialing 151 or the international operator can be reached by dialing 161. Calling the US and Canada will run you about 240 drachmas per minute. Calling North America from Greece is a bit cheaper if you call between 8pm and 11am Greece time.

If you are calling Greece the international access code is 30.
