The most current maps show that nearly 1/4th of Africa is desert. I’ve wondered what it be like to desert walk but it sounds like the danger would be far greater then the reward. Is it common for ppl to hike in the desert just for the fun of it, or am I just mad?

If you want to walk in the desert by yourself I would certainly choose a cool time of the year – in the Summer, the Sahara can be as brutal as Death Valley California but much larger and more remote. When I was in Morocco there were many guides to choose from for guided desert trips – including Camel Safaris.

What country are you thinking of doing this in?

    Regards,
