Home Away From Home, by Nghiep Dao
This is a first hand account of a family who evacuated
Vietnam just before Saigon fell in 1975. This book initially
chronicles their escape via a military cargo plane and
describes a 2 month stay in California's Camp Pendleton.
Eventually a sponsor is found and Coffeyville, a small town
in the middle of Kansas becomes their new home. This is an
intriguing, at times sad and sometimes humorous story of how
a Vietnamese family initially struggled to adjust to

to hellholes and back, by Chuck Thompson
This is one of the most humorous travel
reads that has come across our desk in a long time. Chuck
Thompson decides to visit what he perceives to be four scary
"hellholes": Congo, India, Mexico City and as he says,
"perhaps most terrifying of all", Disney World in Florida.
The book is chock full of memorable witty quotes that will
leave you hunched over laughing especially the chapters on
India and even more so if you have ever traveled to India.
His stories are scattered with expletives, crazy stories,
unusual situations and interesting characters. ....More |

Rio de Janeiro is hot...and will only get hotter from an
International perspective as the world view narrows down on
this "Cidade Maravillhosa" (Marvelous City) as the 2016

down to Rio before prices go up the closer to the Olympics -
from caipirinha's to churrascaria's to Carnival this book
has you covered. While giant to the southwest, Sao Paulo is
so spread out and doesn't seem to have a lot of natural
surrounding beauty, Rio is a different story. It boasts...More

Travel Temptations - Sip California, by Lena Katz
Having personally visited and tasted with someone from
nearly 600 commercial producers within Napa County to date,
whenever a wine tasting book comes across our desk our ears
perk up - especially when such book provides information
about the Napa Valley. What is refreshing about this book is
that it lists a number of totally off the beaten path
wineries that only a "local" would know about. Napa has been
written about more times than a dead horse and it is always
nice to read about our favorite wine region from a unique
angle. Among the most valuable of ....More |
