Costa Rica!!

Hola, Just thought I would offer a tip if you are is heading to Costa Rica. I have a freind down there. He has a small company out of San Jose running custom tours for people. He took me all over the place. Can't wait to go back next year!We hiked up a volcano and down into a crater lake that was absolutley beautiful and hit some hotsprings after, that were heated by another volcano. We're going on a school trip to Costa Rica in May. It's supposed to be really humid and in the 70's and 80's when we go. I HATE it hot or warm. I love the cold. The thing is, is that in San Jose, CR, there will be a ton of mosquitos. Our teachers suggest that we wear long pants and clothes. But its' going to be sooo hot and I'll get really hot and stick which is really annoying.

I've been to San Jose several times, once in May and once in June (in regards to the time of year that you will be there), and I don't remember mosquitos being that big of a problem. Try to go up in the mountains for cooler weather. I was up in the cloud forest area - Monteverde to be specific and it was cold enough in the mornings that mosquitos were not a problem.

If you really don't like heat and humidity maybe you should sit this trip out.
I was in Kuala Lumpur a few years back and it was humid!!! It's not a great feeling being sticky all the time but it was worth it! They have the best Chinatown I've ever seen.

Ive recently thought about teaching english in costa rica and im just hoping somebody can help me with a question, and that is do I need a college diploma to get a teaching job or will an esl certificate be good enough.

Yes, teaching jobs are available in Costa Rica if one is certified (and, I don't remember the certification that is required). There are several problems, though, not the least of which is the very, very low pay. You should keep in mind that Costa Rica is just like any other country in that they do not want some foreigner coming in and taking away jobs that could be filled by a Tico. That said, what you should be googling is private schools, and they will all be in the Central Valley, near San Jose, the capital. There are some legitimate employers who will assist a qualified person to get a legal work permit. You, as the prospective employee, should not have to pay one thin dime for this entire process. If someone offers to get you a work permit for a fee, avoid them like the plague. If you can qualify, and if you have the patience to jump through all the legal hoops, and if you can live on a pittance (probably, if you can find enough work to be full time, less than $500.00 (dollars) per month. And, the cost of living is NOT cheap. Not any more.
