(December 9, 2010) We have been working hard on the (rather complex) logistics for the expedition and can report that we have every expectation of heading out to visit the ‘Ship of Dreams’ in September 2011

As you may be aware the RV Keldysh, long time mothership to both of the twin Mir submersibles has been withdrawn from service after a long and illustrious career. We have been successful in securing the services of a brand new 85m (278ft) vessel which is well appointed with state-of-the-art deep sea exploration equipment including a 75t heave-compensated crane. She will be an ideal platform from which to launch our deep diving missions.

We have also worked to secure the services of the twin Mir submersibles which have been involved for the last two years with the high profile dive exploration program in Lake Baikal, Russia. Next summer they have a series of dives planned in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, prior to mobilizing for our expedition.

At present we are finalizing the details of the logistics behind moving the submersibles from Geneva to a suitable European port. It looks as if two 18 tonne subs are outside of the normal FedEx rates, so we are having to arrange a more sophisticated alternative! Once this is done we will be in a position to finalize dates, post these on our updated website.

By placing a deposit you will secure your place on the expedition. The final diving order (the order that dives are conducted) is determined by the order in which expeditioners are paid up in full.

At this stage we envisage two expeditions; the first departing St Johns, Newfoundland in the first week in September, and the second in the third week in September. The trips will be identical in duration, but of course the earlier trip will have the probable chance of slightly better weather.
