August 30, 2017 by Dave1 Comment

Lompoc, CA – A fall getaway to Lompoc means wine harvest season, tempting local cuisine, rich California history, and a place to unwind, relax and take in the beauty of this picturesque Central Coast town. Harvest season is underway, and Lompoc is known for its small production wineries specializing in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and other cool climate varietals from the surrounding Sta. My Travel Health App

June 11, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Rashid Fehmi, the CEO of Minnesota based Travel Health and Wellness LLC recently contacted me to review a traveler's health app that he has been an integral part of creating. 'My Travel Health' is available via the Apple Store. Once the app is downloaded and installed you choose from seven primary informational based categories - organized by the major continents and regions of the world. Theme travel is one of the categories and provides … [Read more...]

64.8253 Degrees South Latitude, Port Lockroy Antarctica

March 10, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

Port Lockroy is a British base that is occupied several months of the year in the summer by a few staff and is managed by the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust. We visited as part of an Antarctica cruise on Oceanwide Expeditions. Space here is extremely limited as the the base is located on Goudier Island - which doesn't appear to be much larger than a small parking lot. And once the staff are on the base they are not allowed to travel off the island … [Read more...]

If You Want Wisdom, Ditch College and Travel Instead

December 20, 2016 by Marinel de JesusLeave a Comment

I may be a hypocrite in saying what I’m about to say because I have four degrees under my belt and owe thousands of dollars in student loans. And maybe I’m just bitter as I write this because after over a decade of working at my decent paying career, I’m still significantly in debt. It almost feels as if the debt will erase me and not the other way around. Going to college and more so obtaining your graduate degree are both appealing on paper. … [Read more...]

Visiting the best of Northern Vietnam

Visiting the best of Northern Vietnam

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live with in a rural community, deep in the northern mountains of Vietnam?   Eating local delicacies and drinking happy water into the later hours of the night?   Away from the bustling noise of the city and all the tourism?   Waking up with the farmers as the sun comes up, hearing the sound of roosters singing in the valleys?   I always … [Read more...]

How I Had a 5D4N Budget Vacation in Singapore for P7200 (RM 620)

September 23, 2016 by Jose Carlo2 Comments

So I've just grabbed a three days off from my work here in Malaysia and was wondering where to go to? Since I have limited resources, I've selected the two countries accessible by bus transport from Malaysia - Thailand and Singapore. With time consideration, I heard from a local colleague that a bus ride to Thailand will take me 8 hours to Hatyai (but not yet Bangkok - only on the border of Malaysia-Thailand) and only 4 hours to … [Read more...]

Visit San Marino – August 2016

August 1, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

San Marino is entirely land locked surrounded by the Italian borders. It is only 10 km from the Adriatic sea - the country is so small that it does not have its own International airport, but Rimini about 30 minutes away has both an airport and a train station. There are no border formalities - if you want a tourist visa placed in your passport, simply stop by the Tourist Information Office (small fee applies). The country is divided into what … [Read more...]

By Private Jet to Helsinki

July 22, 2016 by Tom KennedyLeave a Comment

An important lesson about travel insurance. For some of my overseas trips, I have taken out medevac insurance; if ever this coverage was necessary, it was during my recent trip to Uzbekistan. After waiting for the landing of Uzbekistan Airways A300 flight from Bangkok, the twin engine private Cessna Citation CJ2+ jet accelerated smartly down runway 8 Left of Tashkent Airport. After quickly becoming airborne, we made a sharp right turn, then … [Read more...]

Traveling Kids Grow up Too Fast

July 13, 2016 by Dean Williamson3 Comments

Traveling kids have a big advantage over their “stay at home” peers, in my opinion. The world is an amazing place but especially so for young children as everything they see is fresh and exciting, filled with wonder. Traveling with them adds a whole new level of joy and energy to any trip as you feed off their enthusiasm. As I have just discovered, it comes at a long term cost to parents, but more on that later. Little travelers have a … [Read more...]

World’s Most Dangerous Border

June 17, 2016 by Ric Gazarian3 Comments

World’s Most Dangerous Border The bitter wind tore through my parka, as I stood less than 25 feet away from an armed North Korean soldier.  I shivered again, but this time in reflection of where I stood.  Sharply uniformed North and South Korean soldiers were patrolling with weapons by their side.  I was in the DMZ, the demilitarized zone that bisects North and South Korea.  Former President Bill Clinton, described it as the "the scariest … [Read more...]
