Denali National Park is located between Fairbanks and Anchorage and is home to the mega attraction, Mt. McKinley - North America's tallest mountain at 20,320 feet. Unfortunately McKinley is only seen about 25% of the time as this mountain creates its own weather and which means it and most of the park are covered in clouds the majority of the time. Come prepared to expect any type of weather anytime of year. But if you luck out and visit on a clear day - what an experience this will be! Other than 2-3 days in late September when the park opens the dirt road to cars via a lottery, buses are the main form of transportation into and out of the park. Purchase your bus tickets at the visitor center (7-9am departure times are recommended - slight chance of better weather in the morning and you need a reasonable amount of time to see the highlights). You have a good chance to see grizzly bears, caribou and moose - other possible sightings may include fox, lynx, wolves Dall sheep, and a variety of birds.
