I&#8217;ve been thinking about the general lack of demand for edible insects in this country and seeing this on the menu made me think even further. Usually I&#8217;m perfectly satisfied with one meal but on this one evening we opted for two full course dinners at two different restaurants! First we popped into the new restaurant Charlie Palmer Steak at the Archer hotel but didn&#8217;t eat anything. We then hit up Eiko&#8217;s on 1st Street, downtown Napa. This is a restaurant that specializes in authentic Japanese cuisine including seasonal dishes and fresh fish. There&#8217;s a nice vibe here that feels more like a big city &#8211; somewhere [&#8230;]</p>

Tickets are $45. This is a rare opportunity to barrel taste the latest 2010 harvest from over 75 producers, as well as taste their newest releases while speaking with the actual wine makers and winery principals. Thirty wineries are represented offering their pre-release wines and large format bottles, and culinary pairings are provided by local restaurants. This annual event is held by the Napa Valley Vintners&#8217; and is their Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade This premiere tasting featured some of Yountville&#8217;s finest vineyards and wines. It was held in the old barrel room of what used to be Groezinger&#8217;s Winery which is now V Marketplace, a collection of fine boutique shops and restaurants including Michael Chiarello&#8217;s [&#8230;]</p>

GranMonte Vineyards located in the heart of the small Asoke Valley was the highlight of our day. This winery was founded by Thai couple Visooth and Sakuna Lohitnavy. Their daughter Visootha (or Nikki) is Thailand&#8217;s first female winemaker (only in her 20&#8217;s, she has many harvests ahead of her). The entire family was behind the counter pouring their wines over the weekend &#8211; [&#8230;]</p>
