That worked fine until a trip where I ended up driving almost 9 hours in one day because I underestimated the real distance between two stops that “looked close” on the map.

Since then I’ve changed how I plan:

1. I break the whole trip into daily legs of 250–350 km max, not more, even if the map suggests it’s doable in one go.
2. I always check tolls and border crossings in advance — some countries use vignettes, others charge per km.
3. I leave one flex day every 4–5 driving days for the unplanned stops that always end up being the best part of the trip.
