Great article. Exchange rates have changed alot since you wrote this but the content is spot on. Currently sitting by the Nile and discussing our terrible taxi fleecing (35usd) from the airport. But at the end of the day it’s nothing to us so we’ll get over it in an hour.

I think the issue is the fact there are so few sites for tourists to go to that the drivers need to win big when we do need them. So that’s fair enough.

It’s an issue all over Egypt but aswan shows it up due to the lack of other options.

Not a great conclusion. The taxi driver fleeces gullible tourists, even if you think it is only a few dollars. How does the street sweeper or farmer get to the taxi drivers living standard when they can’t fleece anyone.
It should be fair price, good service, nice tip.
