CarolinaI’ve heard it is a wonderful place for vacation. I’m looking for any type of information, any spanish website you know?
thanks
LadyIt sure is, particulary I can say it is one of the best you can chose. there are many websites on the canary islands, try spainstay.com, it has message boards in english.
Good luck
Ladythank you lady for the information. I have been looking for a site forever but they all seem to be incomplete.
Have you ever been to the islands? How was your experience like?
UteHopefully you are still interested in going to the Canary Islands.
I have gone to La Gomera several times. Here is how to get there. Fly to Teneriffa and take a taxi from the Airport to the Ferry which goes to La Gomera. When you are on La Gomera you can either take another taxi and ask the driver to bring you to Valle Gran Rey, which is a beautiful Valley. There you find lots of places to stay. Just get of the taxi near the port of Valle Gran Rey and have a beer or a good coffee in one of the bars. The people who work in the bars will help you finding a place to stay. They are all very friendly. The best thing – I think – about the Canary Islands is the food. I have gone there mostly in wintertime: 1rst of January. That is the time when the flights get cheaper and most of the tourists who spent their time on the island over christmas are leaving. So there usually are many locations to stay available. Over christmas it is not that easy to find a place to stay. On the 5th of January the spaniards celebrate their Christmas, they have little festivals going on then and it is really intersting to watch or engage. Too each year around this time there are several processions, they carry a statue of Mary down from the church to the harbour (when I remember that right). During this time of the year the weather is not too hot, sometimes it is windy and La Goumera is rather a good place for walking or Biking (you can rent bikes in Valle Gran Rey). In the middle of the island you find a wonderful forest, which looks like being taken out of a fairy tale. The clouds sometimes touch the hills and up in the mountains it is always cooler than on the beach. In Winter it is better to choose a place to stay which is closer to the beach, as it can be humid in the mountains and the owners of the apartments usually have no heating system. Go and visit “Eugenia’s” place, she makes special Gomerian food, which you cannot find anywhere else on this planet. Too, you should try the honey and maybe take some glasses home. I find it to be the most special honey in the world, certainly due to the plants the bees feed from.
Enjoy and if you have any further questions I will try to answer them. Just send me an E-Mail with Gomera in the Subject line.
Cheers Ute

HayleyHey,
I go to the canary islands every year. I live in england so its only a four hour flight which is great. The thing I like most is that they cater for every need, each one is different. I presume you know that there all volcano’s so there are no natural beaches but they have lovely manmade ones. South Tenerife is the most partying place which is great and id said fuerteentura is the quietist but they all have both sides of the coin. Its also good because you acn hope on a boat form most towns and go to a different island. It also means you can experience the quiet life of being spanish which will give you a very good look at europe.
Be careful, although there spanish they have there own government and so make there own rules. PIckpockets are EVERYWHERE. the police are not to impressed with you if they get called out and everyone drives like maniacs. The crossing are NOT crossings they are just advisable places to cross which believe me is not always the case.
anyway hopefully thats given you a bit of an insight
happy canaries!
ClaireHI,
Just wondering what the weather in La Gomera is like around Christmas time. Also, is the Valle Gran Rey an isolated spot to stay- are there restaurants and bars there or would it be better to stay in san sebastian? We are planning a family holiday at the moment!
best,
Claire -
