Having visited Guadalajara several times, I thought that it was finally time to stay at Hotel Frances. Yes, it’s charming, but sleep is merely a pipe dream. The disco plays banal yet thumping tunes through the wee hours of the morning. In addition, the entrance has to be padlocked at night to keep the revelers out of the hotel. Don’t waste your money here.

    Joanne,

We were planning to stay at the Hotel FRances in August. It seemed so quiet and quaint. But, now I thhink we may look for another place that is quieter. We certainly don’t need music into the wee hours. We do love music, but not in the middle of the night.

Thanks for you info on the “Frances”

We stayed at the Hotel Frances in July 04, had tried another Hotel our first night, the Hotel Isabel, was okay, but too 60’s, the sheets were rough, great breakfast though; had a suite top floor of the Frances the second night for about $80 US, it was great, very convenient for checking out the downtown historic area on foot, nice historic feeling to the hotel, didn’t like the breakfast much; the third night got lost on the way back from Tonala, finally found a Hotel Posada Hidalgo, nice character 50’s character, great price $45, but was on a very noisy street, this would be good if you could get a room to the side, a bellman saved our lives here by preparing enchiladas for us after the cook left. Guadalajara is definitely an interesting place to visit, my wife is from Chihuahua and I’ve been all over MX.
