I am looking at taking a trip for several weeks in and around Managua, Nicaragua and probably up to Tegucigalpa in Honduras. Has anyone been to either of these two capital cities, and if so, do you have any recommendations for what to see in the area – I have read some nice things about Granada and Leon – anything else worth seeing on the Pacific side of the country?

I see the Caribbean side looks alot less populated.

    Regards,

    Hey Dave,

I’ve been living in Granada for a couple of years, but I’d just like to recommend a couple of places, one is a good website for information about hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions, FinditGranada.com, the other is a nice hotel, Hotel El Club. Also, there’s plenty of places to stay at in Granada, but don’t forget laguna de Apoyo which is only minutes away. It’s nice and peaceful there, and every now and then, it’s nice to get away from the church bells, taxis and loud music in Granada. One place I would recommend is Ken and Carol’s (friends of mine) place there, La Orquidea. That’s all, thanks!

Awesome – thanks very much for the information. I will research the sites you posted and will look at using them in an upcoming article about Granada on this website.

I had a great time in Granada and especially enjoyed all the events that took place in the evening – poetry read, German band, classical music etc. The blue crater Lake Apoyo was stunning and doesn’t seem like its really been discovered by tourists yet. If Apoyo was in California there would be multi million dollar homes all around the shores. We stayed at the Monkey Hut and took transportation from the Bearded Monkey in Granada.

My favorite restaurant of the ones I tried in Granada was El Tercer Ojo. We also ate at Asia Latina as well as a few others whose names I don’t have atm. I was surprised to find some Thai dishes on the menu of Asia Latina- my wife is from Thailand and was able to give some good critiques on the Thai food!

    Regards,

    ~ Dave

Hey Dave, just came accross this thread again! Glad you had a good time in Granada, those places you mentioned are still in Granada and doing well I’m sure. I’m back here again and still loving it. I’ve been down here for 3 years now and just wanted to add another resource for people who might stumble accross this site. This one is Between the Waves Magazine, they just recently launched their website with good information and articles. Between the Waves magazine. I know the owners too, good people. Thanks.
