I am hoping to go to peru in early july.I realize that permits for the inca trail are just not an option. As Machu picchu is a must to visit, I understand that there are optional treks that also can go to or near enough to M.P.
Which one of these is a great option in terms of scenery and other things? I have looked at some info. on Lares, and a couple of others. No permit needed, probably less crowded, but are they as good of an experience?
I also have learned about choquequirao. I am open to hearing from traveler’s knowledge & experiences.
    Gracias

ok, you have diferents options in peru.. depend of you.. you can go to the mountains, jungle, beaches, etc.. if you think to go to cuzco, you can go to machu picchu only one day, or you can go to inka trail by 2 days or 4 days.. i went to inka trail 4 days, 2 years ago, it was so great!!! it’s very hard, but wonderful!!

i know some about choquequirao, i didn’t go yet, but i’m very interesting about that.. choquequirao is similar to machu picchu, but you have to walk during 4/5 days, it’s more exigent tan inka trail, this is the reason why not all the people go to choquequirao…

    Hello,

I have an opportunity to hike the Inca Trail in late Jan. 2006. I know it’s rainy season. How bad (rain, cold, mud) would you expect it to be? I contacted 3 tour operators (big ones) and 2 of 3 said it’s ok, 1 said to stay away until April. Of course, the tour operators only make money if people sign-up so I am looking for an independent opionion. What do you think?
