Beware of traveling through Umtata, the regional capital of Transkei and Kwa-Zulu Natal. This city is plagued by violent crime and armed robberies and/or carjackings are very likely to happen to out of towners caught outside after dark. Highway N2 unfortunately runs right through Umtata and it’s best to lock all doors, roll up the windows and not stop at red lights (watch for traffic, though). I learned through hard experience.
