Discovering Casa de Campo: A Traveler’s Paradise

December 31, 2025 by Vinod DominicanLeave a Comment

Casa de Campo is a 7,000 acre resort on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, and it’s basically a small town designed for people who want luxury without the stuffiness. The resort sits in La Romana, about an hour from Punta Cana, and it operates like its own little world with private beaches, golf courses, a marina, and enough villas to house a small army of vacationers.

The Villa Situation

Here’s the thing about staying at Casa de Campo: the villas make hotels feel like a compromise. You get a full house with a kitchen, a pool, staff if you want it, and actual space to spread out. Most villas come with golf carts because the property is massive and walking everywhere would turn your vacation into a cardio session.

The villas range from two bedrooms to absolute mansions with seven or eight rooms, so whether you’re traveling as a couple or bringing the whole extended family, there’s something that fits. Smaller villas with two or three bedrooms work great for couples and small families, while the four to five bedroom options suit groups and multi-generational trips where everyone wants their own space.

And if you’re planning a big gathering or event, the six plus bedroom estates give you room to breathe with multiple pools and enough square footage to get lost in.

Many people look into Casa de Campo villa rentals before booking because the variety can feel overwhelming, and comparing options helps you figure out what you actually need versus what sounds nice in photos.

Golf That Actually Lives Up to the Hype

Teeth of the Dog gets mentioned in every “best golf courses in the Caribbean” list, and for once the hype matches reality. Seven holes run directly along the ocean, which sounds like a gimmick until you’re standing there trying to focus while waves crash below. The course punishes you if you’re sloppy, but it rewards good shots in ways that feel earned.

Casa de Campo also has two other courses: Dye Fore with its ridiculous cliff views and more forgiving layout, and The Links which sits inland and works well for warming up or playing when you’re tired of losing balls to the sea. So you can play three completely different rounds without leaving the property.

Beaches and the Minitas Situation

Minitas Beach is the main beach on property, and it’s where most guests end up. The water is calm, the sand is clean, and you can order food without moving from your chair. But here’s where I’ll be honest: if you’re expecting miles of untouched coastline, that’s not what this is. It’s a resort beach, well maintained but compact.

The better move for beach lovers is taking a boat to Catalina Island or Saona Island from the marina. Both trips take about 20 minutes and drop you on beaches that feel less managed and more like what you picture when someone says “Caribbean.”

Why It Works for Luxury Trips

Casa de Campo doesn’t try to impress you with marble lobbies or chandeliers. The luxury here is practical: privacy, space, and not having to plan anything if you don’t want to. You can eat at the restaurants, play golf, sit by your pool, and repeat for a week without running out of things to do.

It also works for groups because everyone can do their own thing and meet up later. Golfers go golf, beach people go to the beach, kids go to the activity programs, and nobody has to compromise on what they want from the trip.

The catch? It’s not cheap. Between villa costs, golf fees, food, and activities, a week here adds up fast. But if you’re splitting costs with a group or specifically want that “everything in one place” setup, the math starts making sense compared to bouncing between hotels and booking separate excursions.

For travelers who want Caribbean sun without the cruise ship crowds or the backpacker hostel scene, Casa de Campo hits a sweet spot that’s hard to find elsewhere.
