Giant Prawns & Birthdays

February 25, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Syy got up at 330am this morning to drive an hour to pick up some huge prawns from local farmers. The government provides the baby prawns and then these farmers raise the prawns until they are full grown. The “prawn” market is only in a certain town and each farmer apparently only has a limited supply. Oh and for some reason the market is only open in the wee hours of the morning!

Anyway, tonight we celebrated several family birthdays by eating the largest prawns I’ve ever seen in my life. By the time we were finished we all were ripe and ready for showers! We bought a nice cake for my niece who celebrated her 4th birthday. Someone (I think her mom) got the bright idea to decorate the cake with 4 trick candles that keep relighting no matter how hard you blow.

Our niece became frustrated and began blowing as hard as she could. Discovering that was not working she ran away – she resurfaced a minute later in front of the cake with a huge cardboard sheet and began waiving it up and down. That didn’t work either, so she went for a bucket of water but we were able to step in and stop her from drenching the cake with water!
