Ulu Temburong National Park

January 20, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

The rainforest is one of Brunei’s primary attraction and the Trandi Lodge puts one just outside the Ulu Temburong National Park entrance (via wooden boats up a fast moving brown colored river). The rainforest canopy walk has to be one of if not the highest in the world at 42 meters. Its built entirely of aluminum and towers above the forest floor.

Our boat driver raced up the fast moving river with a powerful engine at his disposal. Minute after minute we weaved our way up the channels passing an unbroken riverbank covered with bright green dense foliage. Finally we reached a opening in the jungle which was a path that led up a steep rocky path. At the ridge we found the rainforest canopy walk.

In order to reach the canopy walkway high above the forest floor one has to climb up a rectangle which incorporates a series of almost vertical steps every 7 feet. Its best to be here in the morning as from the top one can see the floating mists above the jungle canopy and you have views in all directions of bright green foliage.

There are several waterfalls in the vicinity – one is accessed by hiking up a small river (no permanent trail) – with so few tourists in the area one has the rainforest all to himself and his guide.
