Hanging out in Sydney

December 29, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

sydney-travel (1)We headed over to Sydney in the beginning of the week – arrived in the AM and checked into our hotel in Kings Cross (avoiding all the obviously drugged out characters who were weaving towards us on the sidewalks – screaming at each other and other general trouble making). Then we were on our way down to the Opera House.

Within landing, clearing customs and checking into our hotel – we were in the botanical gardens on our way to sightseeing within about 90 minutes. The Sydney airport is ideally located close to the city and with the airport train connecting to the metro – getting downtown is painless.

If you want to fight jetlag – do a lot of walking. If you want to succumb to jet lag go to a spa and fall asleep. After spending $20 on a veggie salad – we clearly realized we weren’t in Bangkok anymore and chose the latter option.

Travel and the exploration that invariably comes with being somewhere else – is one of the best forms of exercise. We walked all day today – all through downtown, across bridges (including the famous Sydney Harbour bridge) and around beautiful Darling Harbour along with massive crowds! We stumbled upon Cambpell Street (mini Thai town) and enjoyed the cheapest meal of the past several days – $6 for a slightly larger than cup size of soup. Tomorrow we are off to the Blue Mountains!

Going to be visiting Australia for the first time in Feb 2014. Will be landing in Sydney, staying for a few day and then traveling up to Byron Bay. As well we will be taking a South Pacific cruise out of Sydney. Really looking forward to finally making it ‘Down Under!’
    Thanks for sharing!
