One of the most popular locations for chain hotels is along Hilltop Drive which parallels the 5 freeway on it’s eastern side. Several older style motels are located downtown along with a number of budget properties. Additional properties are located right along the 5 freeway just north of town.

- Americana Lodge is one of the most budget and dated older hotels in downtown Redding.
For some twisted reason we are attracted to the worst motels a city can offer. In fact, we would love to do a travel show on “the worst motels” in the state of California and stay at every single one of them. We suspect this property would be dutifully included.
With an influx of cash, this property could be restored admirably to perhaps what a stay felt like decades ago when it was new (dates from the early 1960’s). Features 58 rooms in two stories. Parking on site – somewhat limited. Within a very short walk of Clearie’s Restaurant & Lounge and a slightly further walk to some cheap fast food restaurants. Also home to longer term budget residents. Need a microwave oven or mini fridge? Expect to pay an extra fee. Internet access so bad they still advertise as providing dialup. Poster child of iconic type flea bag hotels in town.
- America’s Best Value Inn & Suites is located at 533 N Market St along Redding’s Miracle Mile (today a somewhat dilapidated section of N Market street from the N. Market Street Bridge until the start of Sulpher Creek Hill). This property is in a quiet location withini a fairly short drive of the Sacramento River and access to the Sundial Bridge and the McConnell Arboretum.
Wifi if available for guests free of charge throughout the property with plenty of parking on site. The rooms are basic, coming with a flat-screen TV and a hairdryer. All rooms have private bathrooms a refrigerator and a microwave. - Baymont Inn & Suites is located at 2600 Larkspur Ln north of downtown (near several other similar looking hotels in this part of town). Rooms are clean and comfortable with wifi available free of charge for guests along with flat-screen TV’s and a coffee maker in each room. Guests can request a microwave or a refrigerator upon request. Spread out over three stories.
Children 17 and under stay free as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. Plenty of parking including space for trucks and large buses). Some suites have whirlpool tubs. Continental breakfast is included. Features and indoor pool and a business center. Pet friendly hotel (pay extra for pets).
- Best Western Hilltop Inn is located at 2300 Hilltop Drive. They are rated 3 stars with 100+ rooms. Convenient location in Redding’s ‘Hotel Row’. Also part of the well-regarded C.R. Gibbs Restaurant on site – guests of the hotel enjoy an included complimentary hot breakfast buffett (best game in town for a hotel+breakfast combo).
An outdoor heated pool (not heated during Redding’s infamous blazing hot summers) and spa is on site – guests can use free WiFi. Rooms are pet friendly and spacious. Also a small fitness center. For more information visit: www.thehilltopinn.com - Best Western Plus Twin View Inn & Suites is located at 1080 Twin View Blvd in the northern part of town. Renovations to the property were completed in late 2017. Great for both business and leisure travelers and a decent value for the quality of the stay. They offer several types of accomdation including a family suite with multiple extra ammenities as well as their basic guest rooms.
Also meeting space available in their conference rooms. All rooms come with two phone lines, complimentary high speed wifi. Plenty of parking on site including for larger RV’s. Easy access off and on the 5 freeway. Visit: www.bwtwinview.com
- Budget Inn is a two story basic motel located at 1055 Market St just north of downtown. Opened in 2012 as the Budget Inn. Each room is basic but comfortable and includes a small sitting area and cable TV. Reception is open 24/7 and air conditioning is available in each room (certainly an important factor to take note of especially if you plan to stay in Redding in the summer).
Very conveniently located near the McConnell Arboretum. Rooms come in Queen, King and double beds. Affordably priced for the basic accommodation. Two stories. Each room features a dark wood feel. - Comfort Inn is located at 2059 Hilltop Drive and they are rated 2 stars. They have 90 rooms in two stories. Their prices range from $78 to $199. Features a hot tub and fitness center along with included wifi throughout the property.
Plenty of parking on site. Every room has AC (an important feature during Redding’s infamous hot summers) along with a flat screen TV. A good value for the month. Comfortable beds in spacious rooms (especially the King rooms). Complimentary breakfast, a step up from the standard Continental offerings many hotels offer these days. Like other hotels in this part of town, excellent access to and from the great 5 freeway. PHONE NUMBER 221-6530. - Comfort Suites is located at 1195 Grand Ave in the north part of town. A very good value for those that can budget a bit more over some of Redding’s basic budget accommodation which is fairly prevalent in town. Nicely placed – within a short entrance and exit of the 5 freeway.
- Deluxe Inn is located at 1135 N Market St – this property looks like it was caught sometime between the 1960’s and the 1970’s. Located along Redding’s Miracle Mile north of downtown. All rooms come with TV and free cable – several of the rooms are a significant upgrade in the face they offer a sofa bed with a private balcony.
There are plenty of parking spots here including for larger vehicles such as camper trailers and RVs. Guests needing alertness at certain times of the day can take a stroll to their lobby where free coffee is available 24/7. Or there are two coffee shops almost immediately outside the lobby door. Two stories with 38 rooms. - Economy Inn is as the name indicates a basic and budget property located in the heart of Reddings infamous Miracle Mile – address: 525 N Market St. Those traveling with dogs who are on a budget, take note of this property; they are dog friendly. Rooms are no frills very basic with color tv and cable channels included.
Rooms are air conditioned (much needed during Redding’s brutal summers) and include a microwave and a refrigerator. Their reception is open 24/7. Plenty of parking on site including for larger vehicles and trucks. Conveniently located near Westside Pizza across the street and for those coming to Redding to get their vehicle smogged, an A-1 Smog & Auto Repair shop is located next door. Also located within a very short walk of the start of the western side of Sulpher Creek Hill. - Fairfield Inn & Suites, Marriott is located at 5164 Caterpillar Rd (presumably the name of the road is not associated with the tractor company). Often spending $30 to $40 more per night over Reddings most flea bag hotels, one finds a much better accommodations. Take this hotel for example – clean, comfortable with a complimentary full hot breakfast served every morning.
All rooms and suites include the personal use of a refrigerator and a microwave. Fitness buffs take note – perhaps its too hot to go jogging around the parking lot so simply jog over to their climate controlled fitness center. An outdoor pool is available along with a hot tub. In addition, for those pulling those bigger vehicles – take a peace of mind in knowing that they have a pull-through trailer and RV parking section as well as charging stations. Bethel Church often sees out of towners on spiritual pilgrimages – this hotel offers corporate rates for those folks. - Hampton Inn & Suites is located at 2160 Larkspur Ln in the northern part of town. Fairly new feel to the property. Clean and comfortable rooms (80 guest rooms including suites).
Guests can choose from contemporary suites with plenty of space to stretch out or their normal guest rooms. Free hot breakfast is included daily in the am. Plenty of TV channels to choose from as well as complimentary high speed wifi available in every room. Business travelers take note of their business center – a meeting room seats up to 65 folks. Those who demand a daily workout can demand that here; the property features a gym and fitness center for all paying guests. - Holiday Inn is located at 1900 Hilltop Drive. An unusual looking Holiday Inn as visually the outside strongly resembles a mortuary. They offer an early check in and a late check out. Their prices range from $95 to $149. They have 158 rooms. Breakfast is not complimentary.
A business center and fitness center are on site as is an outdoor swimming pool. A bit dated rooms and decor. PHONE NUMBER 221-7500. - Holiday Inn Express is located at 2300 Hilltop Dr and opened for customers in 2018. This replaced the dingy looking old Hilltop Inn that used to be an eyesore in this part of town. This hotel features 93 rooms. Stay posted for more information coming soon.
- La Quinta Inn is rated 3 stars and they are located at 2180 Hilltop Drive. They have 140 rooms in 3 stories. They also have a whirlpool. Prices range from $99 to $149. A breakfast includes unlimited coffee and juice, fresh fruit waffles and muffins.
Each room comes with a flat screen tv along with many channels. All rooms come with a coffee maker, hair dryer and an ironing board. A heated swimming pool and a mini spa are located on site. Pet friendly. Visit: www.laquintaredding.com
- Motel 6 CENTRAL is located at 1640 Hilltop Dr. Very easy access on and off the 5 freeway. A number of restaurants located within walking distance including the Mazatlan almost on the same property as this hotel. They maintain a narrow gated entrance way to the hotel presumably to discourage non guests from straggling in. Staff has no brainpower or leeway to make exceptions to certain rules they have around bookings.
A pretty pool is certainly a plus of a stay here. Two story – fairly clean and comfortable. Choose from a variety of bed choices including Queen, King and doubles. A budget place to stay for the Redding Gun Show.
- Motel 6 SOUTH is located at 2385 Bechelli Ln and is certainly a nicer looking Motel 6 property as compared to the Motel 6 CENTRAL.
Features plenty of parking, basic accommodation on either r=the first or second floors. Also a swimming pool for guests needing to get in some exercise or children wanting to splash around. Features somewhat weak wifi at times. Not always the friendliest of staff. Very basic. - Oxford Suites are located at 1967 Hilltop Drive. This hotel is part of a number of Oxford Suites located throughout Oregon, California, Washington and Idaho. They are rated 2 stars and have 141 non smoking rooms.
Visiting during the summer, head straight to their outdoor swimming pool – next to a quiet courtyard. This property also offers meeting facilities. Centrally located to a number of Reddings prime attractions including the Sacramento River and the Sundial Bridge. Spacious rooms. Visit: www.oxfordsuitesredding.com - Quality Inn is located among Redding’s hotel row at 2059 Hilltop Dr. Known for featuring bed bugs in their rooms. Very suspect customer service. Think twice before staying here. Features a small seasonal pool.
- Red Lion Hotel is located at 1830 Hilltop Drive. They are rated 3 stars and have 192 rooms in two stories. Their prices range from $80 to $127. Conveniently located in Redding’s hotel row, this property is a short drive to the Sundial Bridge or access to the world-renowned Sacramento River.
The Red Lion is part of the California Green Lodging Program – demonstrating green practices and environmental friendliness at their hotel. Rooms offer free wifi, complimentary airport shuttle, hot breakfast in the am, a fitness center and an onsite bar & grill. - Red Lion Inn Suites is located at 536 E Cypress Ave (not to be confused with nearby the Red Lion Inn). A business center and fitness center are located on site. - Rodeway Inn is located at 532 North Market Street. They are rated 2 stars and they have 61 rooms spread throughout two stories. Plenty of parking. Some rooms have microwaves and refrigerators. All rooms come with a tv along with satellite channels. Every room comes with a private bathroom – no hostel situation here. - Super 8 Motel is located at 5175 Churn Creek Road (away from other hotels in the southern part of town). Complimentary wifi offered so you can keep in touch with friends through chat programs such as Whatsapp and Viber. They are rated 2 stars and have 80 rooms in 2 stories. Their prices range from $65 to $99. Features a large outdoor pool (only open during the spring and summer and parts of fall months) as well as an indoor Jacuzzi. All rooms are non smoking. Plenty of parking on site. A good choice for travelers who don’t want to stay in an are surrounded by lots of other motels. PHONE NUMBER 221-8881.
- Redding Travelodge is located at 540 North Market Street. Newly remodeled, elegantly styled and an exceptionally affordable value – they are rated 3 stars. They are centrally located and close to the Sundial Bridge. Redding Travelodge offers more than a place to sleep. - Sheraton Sundial Bridge opened in early 2018 – and is ideally located within walking distance of Turtle Bay and the iconic Sundial Bridge.
In a city FULL of ratty 1 and 2 star hotels, the addition of this property is MUCH NEEDED.
Plenty of rooms, the hotel is LEED certified and pet friendly (charges extra per night per pet). Great place to stay for convenience as only a few minutes drive from downtown, great for business travelers or those who would like the ease of access to the outdoor world (plenty of nearby hiking or jogging trails next to the Sacramento River).
Offers 130 modern rooms including six suites. An executive 1200 square foot Club lounge is also on site along with a 1,000 square foot work out room and an outdoor heated pool. 48 inch flat screen TV’s in all rooms. Mosaic is their on property restaurant. Parking on site is paid per night. A concierge is on site to help with your visiting needs. Offers two stories.
Reasonable prices for the location. Rooms offer king, queen sized single or double beds. Within an easy walk of the Clearie’s Restaurant & Lounge located across the adjoining street. - Thunderbird Lodge is located in downtown Redding. Clean, comfortable and centrally located lots of nice qualities facotri in a stay at this ‘vintage’ motel. Despite the look of the property from the outside, rooms are contemporary.
Older motels can sometimes have a creepy or sleezy feel to them – not so here. Not a huge amount of parking but usually enough. Train tracks/station located about 5 blocks over – you might hear the train whistle at times. Features two storys. The sign alone has a nice “cool” factor! Visit: www.thunderbirdlodgeredding.com - Towne Place Suites, Marriott is located north of town at 2180 Larkspur Ln. One of the finer hotels in a town seriously lacking proper places to stay. A short drive to Lake Shasta and easy on and off access to the 5 freeway. Plenty of surrounding parking on their property.
Rooms feature full kitchens, an office space and flat screen HDTV’s. High speed internet is located throughout the property. A breakfast is served daily and included with a stay. Rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. Feels like mini apartments. - Travel Inn is located at 1040 Market St just north of downtown. Features simple and basic rooms with a queen or king bed. Somewhat limited parking on site. Has AC in each room but note they tend to be the loud units.
