Experiencing the lights and sounds of Lille

February 8, 2014 by ReddyLeave a Comment

franceIt is true that France is a beautiful country that offers something special and distinct in each one of its cities. Lille is a city located in the North Eastern region of the country and is inarguably one of the most beautiful of all. It’s beauty lies in its perfect tranquility, peaceful environment surrounded by some of the most fascinating structures in architectural history, lush green parks, galleries and museums dedicated to the history of the world and imparting knowledge to young minds, and of course some of the most popular pieces of art from across the globe. Lille is adorned with a large number of gorgeous fountains, historical buildings and palaces, and therefore there is a lot to see for tourists traveling to this part of the world.

Among the top attractions of the city is the Grande Palace, an area which is commonly known by locals as the Square of Lille. This area served as a marketplace for wheat and other commodities during the medieval times. There are three levels of the palace that are open to the public, now featuring a number of different shops restaurants and modern cafes. Tourists can choose to enter the building from one of the four entrances, each having its own significant architectural significance and value. The Palais De Beaux Arts is another magnificent tourist spot. It serves as museum, and was the very first museum of the country inaugurated in the year 1809. The entrance of the building features a stunning fountain which is an amazing sight to behold. The museum itself is home to exquisite, priceless works of art including statues made of marble, paintings and many more relics from history. There are a number of items present within this building that speak volumes about the existence, history and culture of Lille, as well as of France.

Lille is also home to the Europe’s largest flea market, known as the La Grande Braderie De Lille. This particular market may not seem much in pictures, but it attracts a staggering 2-3 million tourists and locals every single year. Just like everything else in the city, this market is a lot more than bargains and unique objects, it holds historical value. The trip to the market is an interesting and convenient one because nearly all buses and subways of the city make a stop here. Lille’s Museum of Natural History is another unique, exiting experience for many. Divided into various different departments such as Zoology, Geology, Industry, Commerce, Ethnography and Natural History, is it truly one of a kind and never fails to impress visitors.

People who yearn to experience excellent shopping sprees, architecture, art, history and the beauty of nature all in one place must plan a trip to Lille. It becomes easy to plan a trip to the city when you have the right application or online guide that contains comprehensive information about all of Lille’s attractions. Trip indicator is one such website that has it all, including brief histories of the tourist spots, their opening timings, and ticket information that makes it convenient to plan ahead on the go.
