This blog won’t discuss how “extreme” my adventures are, nor how “different” my destinations, but rather, will serve as a humble narrative for my personal story: what I’ve learned and what I haven’t, how I’ve grown through travel, and the responsibility I feel to inspire others, however indirectly, to explore their world as well. In a snapshot, we’re an adventure seeking couple from Cairns with a lust for life and a love of travel – our desire to discover places new and old will underpin our journey across this great country of ours. We dare you to come along for the ride as we share our experiences, learn something about ourselves that we didn’t already know, and traverse many a dirt and dusty track to tick off our bucket list of destinations.

I’m Jane and currently a corporate worker bee – some people are on the “Freedom 55” plan but I’m on “Freedom 95”, trying to enjoy life to the fullest. I’m proud about working, because it pays my bills and funds all my travels. For the last 20 years, I’ve visited 46 countries by ships (ocean cruises, river cruises, yachting), planes, trains, & automobiles. Back when I first started travelling, there was no social media, cellphones were like bricks, and disposable cameras were the “it”, and there were no selfies or groupies . We saw the world OLD SCHOOL. Can you relate?

Our love of travel began in 2005, when we went on our first overseas trip together as 23 year olds. That trip sealed the deal – we would spend the rest of our days exploring the world. This same trip made us realise how much we enjoyed spending time together and we became inseparable.

Travel doesn’t have to involve a passport. The real adventure is stepping into the lives and experiences of others, whether it’s in India, Ashland or Oysterville. And food is the connection that brings us together wherever we find ourselves, from the tea parlors of Istanbul to the tap rooms in Portland. Everyone I meet on my journey to live more fully teaches me something new – even if it’s how not to do something.
