Brazil World Cup: A Preview for Travelers

June 5, 2014 by Abigail BLeave a Comment

copa-brazilHordes of soccer fans from around the world are about to descend on Brazil for the 2014 World Cup Finals. It promises to be a spectacular party, and if you’re one of those lucky enough to be able to go, there are a few things you’ll need to know before you arrive. Planning your travel arrangements around the big games will take a little work, but it’ll pay off.

Brazil is absolutely vast, with the most northerly host city, Manaus, being around six hours by plane away from its southern counterpart, Porto Alegre. This presents a few issues; if, for example, you’re a fan of England and you want to see their first three matches, you’ll need to travel to Manaus for the first game against Italy on 14th June, then south to Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte for the next two (Uruguay and Costa Rica.) Your best bet is to find a decent schedule, and try and plan your trip around the few matches you want to see.

Planning flights and accommodation in advance, then, is going to be crucial for visitors. Once you’re happy with the basics, you can start looking forward to the big games. Neutrals – fans from countries that aren’t represented, or have been dumped out of the tournament – will often end up supporting Brazil, indisputably the most successful national side ever, and as things stand, huge favorites to take a record sixth World Cup trophy.
