Exploring Lake Rio Cuarto: The Deepest Lake in Costa Rica

November 5, 2025 by A Couple for the RoadLeave a Comment

Lake Rio Cuarto is the deepest lake in Costa Rica and truly a hidden gem. I haven't seen pictures or heard of this place prior to me visiting. Most tourists never end up here, unless they stay at the exact same eco lodge I stayed at, Hotel Del Bosque. They arrange all the tours on this lake and carry people to and from the hotel and the lake. We already rented a car for the duration of our trip and we just drove there ourselves. If you'd like to … [Read more...]

Why it is Important to Have Travel Insurance

August 20, 2024 by DaveLeave a Comment

My first trip outside of the U.S. was with family to western Canada. Inspired by the summertime scenery in the gorgeous rocky mountains including moraine lakes, glaciers, snow covered tips of mountains and wildlife, upon returning home I began to dream of more overseas travels. My next trip was to Costa Rica as part of a college sponsored trip; I remember this was the first time I swam in an ocean with warm water. And the wildlife in Monteverde … [Read more...]

Is it Safe to Travel Alone in Central America?

Kayaking on Lake Nicaragua

Sometimes I feel like a broken record talking about my recent backpacking trip in Central America and South America, because I’ve written so much about it on my own blog. But here I am on a brand new website, with a brand new audience, and I guess I’d better start from the beginning. I had this grand plan to spend a year backpacking from Mexico City to Santiago de Chile, completely by bus, boat, train, car; anything except from flying. This … [Read more...]
