Magic Slope and Magic Meal

December 9, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

The weather is slowly getting colder and colder this week. Today we headed out of town to the “magic slope” where you can seemingly sit on a bike and move “uphill” without peddling. It took about an hour to get here. Once we arrived we parked at the entrance as they wouldn’t let us enter because of all the black ice covering the steep road up to the ‘spot’. Our driver exited our vehicle and walked over to purchase tickets at the booth. As he turned way from the ticket booth and was walking back to the van he slipped on the black ice and bashed his head against the concrete and broke his ankle. A nearby hospital sent sent a car and he went into surgery later in the evening.

From the entrance we walked up a hill taking extreme caution to watch for the dangerous black ice. We reached the Magic Slope and immediately jumped on bikes. Apparently this is a unique location because when it looks like you are peddling uphill you are actually peddling downhill – you can let the bike coast along. This particular spot was covered with frosty snow so we had to be very careful.

I enjoyed one of the best meals in a long time at Zhong Sen restaurant in the heart of Shenyang. We had a private room and a private chef for the entire meal. The huge shiny stainless steel top with side vents where all the dishes were prepared was enough to make any chef envious. We were treated to amazing food and amazing presentation, not to mention the chef liked to juggle with sharp knives! I even ate a whole frog, intestines and all the partially digested material (somewhat bitter) as I was told that will help with my cold!
