This New York Times Bestseller is another slow building suspense novel by J.A. Jance featuring its main character, private investigator J.P. Beamont. He travels to Alaska to pursue a cold-case which has personal ramifications. While working for the Seattle Police Department nearly 20 years prior, his partner Sue Danielson was murdered by her ex husband. J.P. was on the scene of the crime and his quick thinking saved Danielson’s two boys.
Now twenty years later, one of her boys Jared reached out to J.P. because his brother Chris has been missing for 12 years and would like his assistance in determining what happened. Is the brother still living or did he run into fowl play?
While in Alaska pursuing the case, J.P. hires a woman by the name of Twinkle Winkleman to drive him. A bit of a character, her insider knowledge, network and personal initiative proves highly valuable. If this book were turned into a movie, it is crystal clear as to which actress would play the part of Winkleman – Melissa McCarthy.
As the pages turn rapidly, J.P. closes in on the prime suspect. Readers may find themselves tempted to flip ahead in the early chapters. Don’t.
