I’ve been to San Jose several times, once in May and once in June (in regards to the time of year that you will be there), and I don’t remember mosquitos being that big of a problem. Try to go up in the mountains for cooler weather. I was up in the cloud forest area – Monteverde to be specific and it was cold enough in the mornings that mosquitos were not a problem.
