Just got back from Bangladesh – amazing country full of really nice people. VERY few tourists every go to this country and perhaps not many people from ‘western’ countries can even identify its location on the map.

There are some highlights among the crazy madness of the traffic in Dhaka including old Dhaka, some shopping, the river, the National Museum, the Pink Palace and more.

The Sundarbans are the world’s largest mangrove swamp and these are worth visiting if you have the time. The Royal Bengal tiger still lives in these swamps and if you are very lucky you may be able to see one.

I will post several journals about my time in Bangladesh in the coming weeks.

    Dave

Here is another email for Dave that I found on the web – I sent a test message, hasn’t bounced back yet so maybe this one is still valid:

Hi Gregg – on almost 3 month trip now and currently in Thailand/Malaysia. I’ve been to the Phillipines but never by boat. I would suspect you have to hook up with someone making that sailboat route – as both Thailand and the Philippines are popular sailing destinations.

I would recommend checking out some of the crew links I have here:
    http://www.davestravelcorner.com/links/index.php?mwa=id:59

    Specifically this one: http://www.floatplan.com/crew.htm

and or post your interest on some of the sailing forums.

Hope this helps steer in the right direction, as when I visited the Philippines earlier this year I flew the normal flight from Bangkok to Manilla.

    Regards,

    Dave

    LH78 – thanks for posting 🙂

I’m currently on a 3 month trip of the middle east and SE Asia and just came across your post as net access is a bit spotty on the islands where I am now. Let me know what countries you are planning on visiting in CA and SA and I can give you some recommendations and possible contacts. I’ve been to all Central American countries except Panama (thats next year), and Columbia, Peru, Chile and Argentina. I love Peru and Argentina and have been to Peru a number of times.

If you need any recommendations for hotels in BKK I would be happy to help. I am in Thailand right now. I have listed some hotels in BKK that I have stayed at in the past here:

    http://www.davestravelcorner.com/articles/bangkok/bangkok-hotels-hostels-lodging.htm

You can take a taxi to any district in BKK regardless of the time you arrive at the airport – and just by walking around you can find hotels as well, esp in the Ko San Road area.

Yea just rented Outsourced – one of the better movies I’ve seen in the past few years. Great humor! This site also has good information about the festival portrayed in that movie:

Thanks for posting! I watched the 1st 8 minutes – looks like the India I know. Taxi to green/yellow tuk tuk scene is classic. Can’t wait to watch the entire movie.

Do you have a general route you plan on taking?

I plan on starting in Panama (the last C. American country I have yet to visit) and working my way down through parts of South America to Rio, flying from their to J’berg in S. Africa – visiting a few southern African countries – and Egypt and then making my way to parts of Asia.

The hardest part of taking a trip like this seems to be arranging/canceling everything that is a part of where I live before I actually leave.
