The Legendary Ghan, Adelaide to Darwin – July 2017

A relaxing way to see Australia’s interior is to take the Legendary Ghan. A number of rider options are available including premium class, private cabin with bathroom or reclining seats for the more budget conscious traveler. This great journey runs nearly 3000 kilometers between Darwin in the North and Adelaide in the south. It takes about 54 hours to cover this one way journey. Off train options are offered in the small towns of Katherine and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. This means you do not have to ride the rails straight through at one time, but can take as much time as you like touring before jumping back on the train.

As a result of such a long distance the landscape varies – from more lush tropical in the north to the semi-arid region of the great outback to rolling hills and a more Mediterranean feel in the south. Let the journey calm you – Australia is vast and for the traveler trying to see as much as possible, the train ride can be a calming respite from the rest of your travels within the country.

Enjoy fine food, drink and personalized service. If you are in a private room you can actually take a hot shower! Your mini couch turns into a comfortable bed – one on top and one on the bottom. The train doesn’t ride every day – for more information, options and pricing visit: https://journeybeyondrail.com.au/journeys/the-ghan/
