Isleton Crawdad Cajun & Blues Festival California – The Crawdad Festival, an annual event held since 1986, is a real party! This is the largest single event consumption of crawdads outside of the godfather state of Crawfish, which of course is Louisiana. Literally tens of thousands of people converge on this very small town which has a population of under 1000 people (California’s Delta Region – east of the San Francisco Bay Area). Over 24,000 pounds of crawdads / crayfish are typically consumed at this 3-day event.
That is a whole lotta red crawdads! Besides the crawfish there are also many vendors, restaurants and other businesses displaying their wares on the streets of Isleton. Beer seems to go hand in hand with boiled crawdads; expect to see a number of happy attendees with beers in hand. Budget $10 for parking plus another $10 for admission. Unless you get there early, expect to do some walking from the parking lots outside of town. More info: www.isletoncoc.org/crawdad.html
NOTE: in recent years the crawfish festival has been significantly scaled back.
