We are Ryan & Emily, otherwise known as Snail Travelers! In 2018, we decided to sell, donate, or throw out everything we owned in order to travel around the world. In our mid-forties, we left our professional careers in the U.S. behind us–Ryan as a high school science and math teacher and Emily as a nurse. We packed our backpacks and set off to our first destination–Peru, South America!

This blog is about the life of two vagabonds and their three children, right now traveling around the world on a shoe-string budget. It is written by me, the female lead character, as I am the only one with enough patience and commitment to do so. Welcome.

my past is littered with trips here and there. It was only recently I really had the bug for travel. Was it because I hit 40? Who knows. What I do know is that if you want to see something, do something, visit somewhere so badly, then you must find that way to do it and get there.

We are a travel blog that will be posting about everything as we start our adventure of long-term travel. This is no vacation!

I caught a case of the travel bug early in life. Even the business travel required by my first job in corporate communications sealed my incurable state. Many times I thought, “They’re really paying me to travel?"

My work has allowed me to travel to an assortment of different places. I have lived in the Ootty Mountains in India, writing an investigative feature on the changing lifestyle of an ancient tribe. I spent two weeks trekking in Japan, writing quirky and interesting anecdotes about Japanese youth culture for a variety of different Sydney newspapers. Wherever my travels take me, I always have a notebook in hand.
