I’ve always loved flying away to explore a foreign land but it wasn’t until May 2015 when my love for travel became a need. After being in a stable routine for a long time, my life suddenly changed when, within the space of just one week, my relationship of over five years ended and I found myself suddenly unemployed. With no idea which direction to head in next, I decided to avoid the decision a little longer by booking myself on a group tour around Europe. Well, that pretty much changed my life and after an amazing summer of seeing incredible places, meeting new people and creating some of my most treasured memories, I’m looking to the future and seeing a great deal more travel and happiness to come. And through this travel blog Wander with Laura, I hope to take you on that journey with me…

Travel for the IN dependent spirit

You could say my nomadic life began when my Dad was posted to the Army before I was born. His work took him far afield and my family followed him where possible

We are a portuguese couple and we have been travelling together since we met. Carla is a geographer and does glacier research in Argentina. Rui is physicist and works as a teacher in Portugal. The last ten years, we have traveled together, backpacking the four corners of the world.

Traveling is the one thing that truly connects us with each other. We have been traveling on-and-off since the time we got married (April 2015), and plan to do full-time travel in the years to come. We took our first trip together very much after the wedding in April to Barcelona and Ibiza and realized pretty quickly that we weren’t done with traveling.

It is our experiences that expand us.

We are a couple of 40-something teachers with a passion for travel. It doesn’t matter what kind: plane, train, boat or our trusty truck and camper. We just want to experience the world and share it with you.

I am a regular girl next door with a regular job and an irregular penchant to travel.

Wandering the globe, searching for stillness

In early 2014, we packed up our little apartment in St. Louis, said goodbye to the midwest, and headed for sunny Southern California. Our expectation was that we would become beach bums - spending our days in the sand and photographing the ocean. To our surprise, we discovered California has a lot of other interesting landscapes apart from the coastal scenes.
