Helpful Tips for Tidying Up Your Front Yard

November 16, 2024 by Joe PublinkLeave a Comment

A first impression is going to last the longest, so if you are trying to get your house ready for the season then you know the first place to start is your front yard. As Christmas fuss approaches, you want to get your home tidied up and ready to reflect your festivities across the neighborhood, whether you’re adding Father Christmas to the front yard or you simply want to mow back the lawn and make it ready for the winter.

Your front yard is going to set the tone for how you want people to consider you and your family and the way that you live. If you allow it to stay overgrown and you’re not using a weed eater regularly, then people are going to assume the inside of your home looks the same with less weeds. You want to give off a good and positive impression of the way that you live your life, so let’s take a look at some helpful tips that you need for tidying up your front yard.

1. Call in the experts. If you want to give your home a full refresh, you’d call in cleaners to start from top to bottom for you. The same can be said for your front yard. You don’t have to do it all by yourself, and you don’t have to worry about tidying out the front lawn. If you would rather save yourself the time, you can hire landscaping experts to come in and walk you through a vision that they may have for your front yard that you may not have even dreamed of. Calling in the experts gives you your time back, so all you have to worry about is showing up to a beautifully done front yard.

2. Add somewhere to sit. Outdoor sofas, bench seats, or even chairs in the front yard are common. Having your own outdoor seating area at the front of your house, not just the back of your house, can really make a statement. Of course, you have to consider security, so don’t place anything valuable in the front yard if it’s unfenced or easily visible from the road. If you do still want to have chairs, you can always have them fixed to the ground so that nobody can just walk past and take them.

3. Trim back all of the greenery. If you’re planning to get out the weed eater to get rid of the weeds, then bring out the heavy tools and trim back the hedges and mow the lawns. You want to have that contemporary look and angular lines can do that. Think about the way that your shrubbery looks across the walkway to your front door. It should make you want to stay where you are forever. You should feel impressed by your own front yard as you walk up it to get to your house. So imagine how guests would feel when they’re walking up it, too.

4. Start getting rid of the clutter. If your front yard has empty parts or broken swing sets and a piece of odd and broken fencing, it’s time to go through and declutter it. You can hire a small skip to help you here, because if you don’t have enough space in your green bin for any green waste and you don’t have any space in your red or yellow bin for any bulky waste, then hiring a skip can help you to get rid of any front yard clutter so that you can give it a proper tidy. If you have old furniture that you want to get rid of but it’s still in good condition, give it a wash and sell it on eBay or on Facebook. You could even post to your local neighborhood pages and ask people to come and collect for free.

5. Construct a bin cupboard. Most people have their outdoor bins in their front yard somewhere so that they can drag it to and from the curb every bin day. If you have an unused space at the side of your house, why not construct a bin cupboard there? You could house your bins there and install a screen so that they are staying hidden but still accessible to you from the road. You don’t have to have too much built onto the side of your house, and you won’t need much planning permission either. You just need a small shed for your bins to live in.

6. Tackle the pathway. What does your pathway currently look like? Is it overgrown with grass and weeds? Does it have a straight line or is it full of broken paving? By stripping the whole thing back and tackling it again with extra cement and new crazily paving stones, you can create a pathway to your front door that makes people feel like. They’re skipping down one of those magical cobblestone roads. The pathway to your house is going to make people feel welcome, so don’t forget to add some light and ensure that the front of the home looks like somewhere people want to be.

7. Give your mailbox a makeover. Old letter boxes bring down the curb appeal of a house and replacing it is super easy to do. There are plenty of off the shelf styles that you can choose from, and family and friends will be able to find your house on the street when you have a well numbered mailbox. It’s a quick upgrade to make and it’s going to make your home appear so much more inviting.

8. Call in the roofers to clean the gutter. Clogged and overgrown gutters are never a great look, but overflowing water is what’s going to wreak havoc on your front yard. By clearing out your neglected gutters, not only will you get rid of a potentially bad smell, you will ensure that your home looks much better. There won’t be any streaks of mossy water flowing down the side of the house, and it’s going to look amazing once you get them cleared out and freshened up.
