Ghana is ALIVE

July 2, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

The ENTIRE country is ALIVE! I'm sitting out on the darkened porch fighting mosquitoes like no tomorrow and Ghana just scored - major noise coming from all homes nearby - every type of noise imaginable, cheering, screaming, yelling, crying, chanting, horns, whistles and metal bells clanging! I'm in the country and I hear this sustained noise everywhere across the countryside! Now the music has started and people are singing! Uruguay has a long … [Read more...]

Working in the Corn Fields!

July 1, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Nothing like working on a computer in a corn field! With the modern wonders of usb wireless modems to connect into the mobile phone's network and the added benefit of having a netbook which inherently has a long battery life, I can perch myself, seated Thai style on the fertile ground among the corn plants, communicating with half the world, albeit agonizingly slowly at times. I compare the Internet speed here to the speed at which these … [Read more...]

Vizini

July 1, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Vizini (Reviewed: Jul 2010) - Where better to test out a product meant to be worn in the sun then the sunny state of Hawaii. We took a Vizini on a recent trip to the big Island to test it out - from sea level to the top of Mauna Kea the Vizini worked as advertised! It is small and lightweight; simply slide in the straps on your sunglasses and voila you have shade without having to wear a cap. Since the Vizini is strapless and is a stand alone … [Read more...]

Colca Canyon, Peru – July 2010

July 1, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

The Colca Canyon Peru is one of Peru's treasures - a canyon so deep that only one other canyon in the world is deeper, a place so little visited yet its only 5 hours from Arequipa, Peru's largest southern city. Hiking trips can be arranged from Arequipa. Typically you can hike to the bottom from the canyon's rim in several hours along trails that switchback down the sides. The bottom of the canyon has an almost Mediterranean feel. There are fig … [Read more...]

Greetings from rural Ghana

June 27, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

12 hours prior, I was walking along Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC just down from the White House. 3 hours after touching down in Accra, the capital city of Ghana in Western Africa I was in the middle of the rural countryside far removed from the hub of activity in the two nation's capital cities. I arrived in Ghana and walked down the jet-way to the tarmac welcoming the warm sun, heat and humidity that only the tropics can deliver. With … [Read more...]
