This prominent and massive plaza located along Avenida Hidalgo is one of only a few plazas in Mexico with a footprint that extends in all four directions (similar to the shape of a thick cross). Located about 20 minutes by car from the center of Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque offers some of Mexico's best shopping (this used to be a suburb of the city, but with urban sprawl has been incorporated into the city limits). The small scenic town of Hopland (population around 800) is situated about two hours (1 hour 45 minutes on a good day) north of San Francisco along the 101 Freeway or about 45 minutes north of Santa Rosa. Real Goods in Hopland is a solar educational center that was built in the mid 1990's. Their original history dates back to the 1970's; founder John Schaeffer started Real Goods in the town of Willits (and he actually sold the first solar panel in the United States).
