Enjoying an Elvis Extravaganza at Graceland in Memphis

December 29, 2017 by Marina BLeave a Comment

No trip to Memphis, Tennessee, is complete without a visit to the Graceland home of Elvis Presley, and with over 650,000 visitors each year, this National Historic Landmark is the second most visited house in America, only surpassed by the White House residence of the US President in Washington. Of course, for many fans of Elvis and his remarkable musical career, a visit to the Graceland mansion is almost like a pilgrimage, or even a once in a … [Read more...]

Place du Casino in Monte Carlo – a gambler’s paradise

October 4, 2017 by Tom LLeave a Comment

Monaco may be the second-smallest country in the world, but it's one that many people have on their list of places they simply have to visit. The rich and the famous have been attracted to Monaco since the early 20th century, with its beautiful setting offering one of the most iconic views on the planet. Surrounded on three sides by France and occupying just under 0.75 square miles of the Cote d'Azur, the principality hosts the Monaco Grand … [Read more...]

Aruba on my Mind

October 3, 2017 by Dave8 Comments

Having explored much of the Caribbean but not yet the ABC's (Aruba, Bonaire & Curaçao) - I opted to take a week long late summer trip to Aruba. The weather on the island is certainly highly appealing with usually fairly constant temperatures moderated by trade winds, little rain on an annual basis, lots of sunshine and is located outside of the hurricane belt. Although I did have to reroute my original return flight plan which was through Houston … [Read more...]

Beautiful Bonaire: The Best Kept Secret of the Caribbean

June 22, 2017 by A Couple for the Road2 Comments

Bonaire is truly an undiscovered diamond in, well, a seascape of so many beautiful diamonds. However, Bonaire is unique in that it remains a sort of untouched paradise in an over-saturated world. The least traveled of the ABC islands, it lies just quietly north of Venezuela in the Caribbean. This small island oasis is a snorkeling and diving paradise, as well as one of the most genial and heartwarming places I’ve ever been. This particular … [Read more...]

Macau is a major tourist draw for visitors from all over the world. The Las Vegas of the East, it’s home to a bustling gambling scene, with huge casino resorts sitting side by side with the cultural and historical sights that make this such an important place to visit. Set on the western banks of the Pearl River, it’s the most densely populated part of the world, with some 650,000 people squeezed into the 12 square miles. While Macau remains … [Read more...]

Santa Catalina Island California – April 2017

April 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

About an hour boat ride (www.catalinaexpress.com) or a 15 minute helicopter ride from the nation's second largest metropolitan region lies the unpopulated Santa Catalina Island. Many people visit for a day but the island offers a plethora of activities to keep one occupied for much longer. Avalon is the largest town on the island with about 3,700 full time residents. In contrast, the second largest and only other town of any size is Two Harbors … [Read more...]

Travelling is such an important part of life for most people. It nourishes the soul, educates the mind, and provides some perspective about the world around us when all we see and read in the media is hate and fear. Arriving in a new city unsure of what the immediate future holds is incredibly exciting, and memories will be made that will last a lifetime. No matter what sort of traveller you are, there are three goals you are likely to have … [Read more...]

Two Lovely Days, Where? Gorgeous Catalina Island, California

March 2, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

On an unusually gloomy day I found myself hanging out in the Commodore lounge on board a Catalina Express ferry with my friend Jacki. I promised her I would not continue to whine about the weather but that was a promise I soon broke. We were on our way to Avalon, the urban gem of Catalina Island. 22 miles from the mainland, in the 'olden days' this ride used take up to 4 hours to cross. On the Catalina Express ferry boat it took us only 60 … [Read more...]

MGM National Harbor—Local Flavors, International Appeal

February 2, 2017 by Tom BentleyLeave a Comment

It may sound like a crock of balderdash to start out a review of a luxury resort with a statement about how happy the employees seem. Or that the property has transformed an area by emphasizing local hiring and local artists. But cross my heart, the service people weren’t smiling at Maryland’s MGM National Harbor resort because they were Westworld robots. And the place has such regional roots that the very clay from the property … [Read more...]
