Smoke the Revolution

February 7, 2006 by Solomon RastagarLeave a Comment

Havana, Cuba March 25, 2003 Dear Friends, Greetings from Cuba!! Just a couple of weeks before my departure to Havana, I could not have imagined soaking up the warm and humid trade winds here on this beautiful Caribbean Island. Instead I was entertaining thoughts of attending a Spanish course in Guatemala, when my old pal Jimmy Bentley called out of the blue to tell me he was looking for a nutcase to join him in defying the US embargo of … [Read more...]

Five Days in Vegas

February 5, 2006 by Michael LevyLeave a Comment

Our plane touches down at eleven o'clock pm after a five hour flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My wife and I start our five day vacation in-famous Las Vegas. For fifty-nine years I have been meaning to pay a visit to the city where anything goes and finally I have made it thanks to a little incentive from Hurricane Ivan. We jump into a taxi and right away the happy-go-lucky driver wants to know if we want to take the freeway or the strip … [Read more...]

Views of a Cruise

February 5, 2006 by Michael LevyLeave a Comment

I have often found that the funniest experiences come to us in life by just observing our fellow humans and being aware of our surroundings. A few times a year I give a series of lectures on board a cruise ship. I teach folks how to invest in the stock market without anxiety. How to live a wholesome, sickness free life, and most of all....... How to be happy every moment we are on earth. On one particular occasion I sat on the open decks … [Read more...]

A Week in Sunny Devon

February 1, 2006 by Michael LevyLeave a Comment

devon ireland england

It was six forty-five in the morning as our USA plane touched down at Gatwick airport. This was the start of my one weeks vacation in Southern England. As we drew up to the disembarkation gate the captain told us the weather forecast for the next few days was warm and sunny ... what a bonus no rain. Once we cleared customs and located our hire car which, as luck would have it, had a diesel engine. What a great reward, considering gas is around … [Read more...]

Robert is Here, Homestead FL – April 2003

April 1, 2003 by DaveLeave a Comment

Robert is Here in Homestead Florida is a rare and tropical fruit stand that has been in business for over 60 years. It was founded by Robert at age 6. We have been here several times - during our most recent visit Robert was still behind the cash register helping customers. We noted that our own purchases were hand written on a paper bag in pencil and then added up. No calculator or cash register here. We are tropical fruit fanatics and had … [Read more...]

Bangkok, Thailand – Day Trips

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The following destinations range from half day to very long day trips from Bangkok. AYUTTHAYA used to be the largest and main city in Thailand before Bangkok. Its located about 90 minutes north of Bangkok by bus (via the Mo Chit bus station) or about 2 hours by train from the Hua Lampong train station in Bangkok. It is well worth seeing if you have a day. It takes most of the day to see this city when you count your travel and visiting … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Attractions

by Dave · 1 Comment

If you rent a car or moped on Paros you can easily discover attractions on your own. Many small quaint towns are located in the center of the island and on the southeast side. Several beaches are best accessed by a moped because of their rugged and more remote locations. Looking for some time to relax, see Parikia, other small towns on the island while also visiting some beaches? I would highly recommend at least 5 days on Paros. Do not just come … [Read more...]

Key West, FL

by Dave · 1 Comment

Key West is the southern most city in the United States. It sits on the last major island at the end of the Florida Keys. The weather ranges from balmy, hot, & humid to quite pleasant in the winter months. The rainy season is in the summer time. The dry season is during the winter months. Temperatures in Key West during the middle of January often are in the low 80's when the rest of the nation is being blanketed by snow drifts or is fighting … [Read more...]

Key West, FL – Attractions

Audubon House & Gardens is located at 205 Whitehead Street. Phone 305 294-2116. This house was the home of a 19th century Key West Settler named Captain John H. Geiger. This building was restored in 1960. The reason it is named the Audubon House is because Mr. Audubon the naturalist visited Key West in 1832. Special exhibitions are shown in the second floor gallery. Be sure to tour the gardens where exotic plants are growing. The Audubon house … [Read more...]

Key West, FL – Restaurants

by Dave · 1 Comment

To begin this section I would like to offer one of the more popular recipes for Key Lime Pie. This well-known pie is a specialty dessert of the Florida Keys. This particular recipe was taken from Key Kookin by the late great Glad Whitley. Ingredients: 4 eggs (separated) 1 cup sugar 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon gelatin (in 1/2 cup ice water) 1 half cup Key lime juice 1 half teaspoon salt Beat egg yolks until thick, add 1/2 cup … [Read more...]
