Museum of Flight, Seattle – June 2011

June 1, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

An entire day, or at least most of the day needs to be reserved for a visit to Seattle's Museum of Flight. Do not underestimate the amount of time needed here! This is a huge museum that spans several buildings and when you are displaying large aircraft invariably you have to spill the exhibits outdoors. The museum is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way South, right next to the King County International Airport about 8 miles south of Seattle. The … [Read more...]

Night at the Museum

May 27, 2011 by Emily MinerLeave a Comment

I stood in front of the Galleria Borghese, my eyes darting between three lines that seemed to snake for equally infinite distances through the elaborate Baroque gardens before the villa, trying to decide which to join. It was Museum Night in Rome: the single night of the year when all of its fabled attractions are open to the public, and at 8:00 P.M., when the evening began, the most famous sights were mobbed. It was also my first night in Rome, … [Read more...]

More fun in Los Angeles

May 16, 2011 by Dave5 Comments

There's always, always something to do in Los Angeles and this past weekend was no different. Stumbled into a place to stay at the last minute - turned out to be where George Clooney used to live and Quentin Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction. Nice! Location was quintessential West Hollywood - minutes from the "strip". Hit the LACOT Travel Tweetup at the Xbar at the Hyatt in Century City. Good to reconnect with other LA area based travelers … [Read more...]

Spend a Long Weekend in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is an ideal Caribbean Island for a number of reasons; history - with buildings that date back to the 1520's there is no older "western culture" in the Western Hemisphere. Christopher Columbus claimed Puerto Rico for Spain in 1493. Food - Puerto Rican cuisine is Spanish & Caribbean influenced, outdoor activities, water sports, great beaches and ease of travel. Breezing through the Windy City

April 28, 2011 by Ivona SiniarskaLeave a Comment

This last weekend in lieu of the Easter Holidays and my Uncle's 50th birthday I flew down to Chicago to spend the weekend with my family and go on a little adventure. Chicago is a huge city and a fairly popular one in North America; although last year alone I transited through the city 14 times I have never actually set foot outside of the airport, so needless to say I was quite curious and excited to grab a camera and have my cousin host me … [Read more...]

Contemporary art in Rome – The MAXXI

April 26, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

The architecture, art work and monuments in Rome deliver infinite examples of the classical art movements and religious art. Architectural structures such as the Colloseum, the Pantheon or St Peter's Square in Vatican City are significant landmarks in the city that represent the elegance and classic beauty of the … [Read more...]

The Wizard of Christchurch

April 18, 2011 by John Edwards1 Comment

EVERYONE knows J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed entirely on location downunder by Kiwi director Peter Jackson. But did you know that a real sorcerer, a magi of magic realism straight out of the Oscar-winning series, only rather recently left New Zealand after the nasty Christchurch Earthquake of 2011. Born Ian Brackenbury Channell in London (4 December 1932), "The Wizard of Christchurch" is an inspired soap-box … [Read more...]

March 28, 2011 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

Quebec Outaouais Casino du Lac Leamy We were excited as we walked in a glass walkway between the Hilton Hotel and the Casino Lac-Leamy located in the same complex in the city of Gatineau, across the river from Ottawa, Canada's Capital. This evening we were going to dine in the Casino's gourmet restaurant - one of the best dining places in the Ottawa Region - the only CAA/AAA Five Diamond ranked in the area. "Move quickly!"
