Exploring Elche

August 26, 2018 by Steph Cooke1 Comment

Also known as the City of Palms, Elche- or Elx in the Valencian dialect- is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination. Elche is situated in Spain’s Costa Blanca region, approximately 23km inland from Alicante. A regular train service connects the two cities, and there are good motorway links to Torrevieja and Cartagena. It is situated conveniently close to two airports- the recently renamed Alicante-Elche airport and … [Read more...]

An Oasis in Death Valley is Restored Beyond Its Original Grandeur

April 21, 2018 by Steve Mirsky2 Comments

When exploring the vast open spaces of the Western United States, millions of travelers visit iconic National Parks like the Grand Canyon or Yosemite. For the uninitiated, Death Valley National Park may appear to simply be a wasteland with record breaking temperatures famous for frying eggs on blacktop. But dig deeper and you have one of the country’s largest National Parks with extremely comfortable daytime winter and early spring temperatures … [Read more...]

April 3, 2018 by Steve Mirsky2 Comments

Tucked away in tranquility overlooking the serene saltwater tidal estuary of St. Andrew's Bay flanked by Florida's most popular State Park and 7 mile barrier Shell Island in the distance, Sheraton Bay Point Resort is also just a shuttle bus away from the bustling beach front strip of Panama City Beach. Originally built and operated under different brands, Sheraton took over the Bay Point Resort in 2015 with a $30 million overhaul … [Read more...]

Liard River Hot Springs: A Must-See on the Alaska Highway

February 19, 2018 by Sarah and Choppy2 Comments

At 1,400 miles long, the Alaska Highway, also known as the ALCAN, traverses some of the most inhospitable and least-populated parts of Canada and the United States. It remains one of the great North American roads. A trip up the Alaska Highway is a bucket list item for many people who enjoy a road trip and an adventure. There are dozens of amazing places to stop along the Alaska Highway, but one of those places is unlike any other: Liard River … [Read more...]

Dreaming of My Own Private Island in Aruba

February 7, 2018 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

Aruba is a Caribbean gem. The white sand beaches and crystal-clear blue water make it a legitimate standout. If you thought the Caribbean was all lush tropical foliage, you’re in for a surprise when you see Aruba’s desert landscape. Aruba is arid, but it’s loaded with stunning floral eye candy. Its famed Divi Divi trees act like a natural compass, dipping graciously in a southwesterly direction, given a push by Aruba’s steady trade winds. … [Read more...]

Aruba on my Mind

October 3, 2017 by Dave8 Comments

Having explored much of the Caribbean but not yet the ABC's (Aruba, Bonaire & Curaçao) - I opted to take a week long late summer trip to Aruba. The weather on the island is certainly highly appealing with usually fairly constant temperatures moderated by trade winds, little rain on an annual basis, lots of sunshine and is located outside of the hurricane belt. Although I did have to reroute my original return flight plan which was through Houston … [Read more...]

Where Should You Eat? Restaurants in Coastal Alabama

July 10, 2017 by Jaime Scilingo Mazur2 Comments

Decor at The Gulf, a seaside restaurant in Orange Beach, Alabama.

If you've never been on a beach vacation in Alabama, you are missing out. I had the opportunity to visit Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Alabama recently and what a treat it was.  From the white sugar sand beaches to the deep sea fishing, the Alabama coast has it all.  To me, the Alabama coast was a great beach vacation without the pretense of some other popular beach locations in the U.S. When you don't want to "keep up with the joneses" and just … [Read more...]

Two Lovely Days, Where? Gorgeous Catalina Island, California

March 2, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

On an unusually gloomy day I found myself hanging out in the Commodore lounge on board a Catalina Express ferry with my friend Jacki. I promised her I would not continue to whine about the weather but that was a promise I soon broke. We were on our way to Avalon, the urban gem of Catalina Island. 22 miles from the mainland, in the 'olden days' this ride used take up to 4 hours to cross. On the Catalina Express ferry boat it took us only 60 … [Read more...]
