REI Flagship Store, Seattle – December 2006

December 1, 2006 by DaveLeave a Comment

REI Flagship Store Seattle - An attraction in and of itself, this store outranks all other REI stores in terms of size, on site attractions, and an unbelievable supply of outdoor equipment. This is REI's flagship store and it really shows. The building is beautiful - there is a 65 foot climbing wall, mountain bike test trail, and other gear testing stations. Also visit the "garage" downstairs which contains returned items at discounted … [Read more...]

Mt. Rainier, WA – The Climb

by Dave · 3 Comments

Introduction We stayed one night at Camp Muir, then crossed the Cowlitz Glacier to Cathedral Gap (10,640 ft) and continued along the rock and scree ridge to Ingraham Glacier and Ingraham Flats at 11,100 ft. We spent the rest of the day here, caught some Z's until just past midnight - then left for the summit, reached the top and returned to Ingraham Flats. At this point due to exhaustion we caught some more Z's and then packed up the tent and … [Read more...]

Siberia, Russia – Here I Come!

February 5, 2006 by Rick ChapoLeave a Comment

"You must really hate this job." That's what my boss said when I told him I was moving from San Diego to Siberia for a year. In reality, I was bored and looking for something that would be completely and utterly new. Whether it was sunstroke or a developing tolerance to margaritas, San Diego just wasn't cutting it anymore. Heck, I hadn't even gone to the beach in nine months and it was only a few blocks away. Time to rediscover a zest for life. … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Lily's Mt Shasta, is one of our favorite restaurants in town; we have eaten here numerous times. Located at 1013 S. Mt Shasta Blvd. The breakfast is comparable to Firesign Cafe on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Lilys serves a very good Eggs Benedict and also a Salmon Omelet. Lilys also serves Lunch, Dinner and they do catering. This restaurant is Dave's "post climb" tradition and will never be missed after coming off the mountain. They are open 7 … [Read more...]

Spokane, WA

by Dave · 1 Comment

These are the streets that Bing Crosby used to walk. Tall brick buildings still stand silently, some looking as new as when they were built, some left to slowly crumble. Imagine yourself in a city that still holds onto its heritage yet at the same time revels in its future. This appreciation of the past but respect for the future can be seen in the many restored buildings located downtown. These buildings still retain their original feel, but are … [Read more...]

Spokane, WA – Spokane City

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Spokane is located 18 miles from the Idaho border and 110 miles from the Canadian border. Spokane is located in a unique area because within a short drive of the city travelers can be in the pines and beauty of Coeur d' Alene, desert terrain, snow skiing in the winter or traveling among a sea of farms. The city is protected by the Cascade mountains from the wetter weather experienced to the west in Seattle and along the coast of Washington. As a … [Read more...]
