Los Angeles, CA – Burbank

by Dave · 1 Comment

Burbank is often called the "Media Capital of the World" - and for good reason. Located within a short drive of Hollywood, a number of prominent studios and entertainment companies have their headquarters in town as well as production facilities. And a number of prominent films have been shot in Burbank both in studio and around the city including Apollo 13, Back to the Future, Casablanca, Jurassic Park and many other movies you know and … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Koreatown

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Los Angeles, CA – Koreatown lies in the western backyard of downtown Los Angeles and from this vaguely defined "town", on most days you can easily see downtown Los Angeles (unless its too smoggy of course). This is one of the more densely populated regions of Los Angeles as a result driving can be a real challenge here. Parking lots at the small 2-story malls are very limited, with narrow space, narrow lanes and exits. Trying to turn left is … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Little Saigon

by Dave · 10 Comments

Little Saigon is located in the town of Westminster in Southern Orange County between the 405 and the 22 freeways (with good traffic about 45 minutes south of downtown LA). This is NOT a small town. It is predominately a Vietnamese community and is one of the largest Asian communities located anywhere in the USA. If you are not of Vietnamese heritage and you are in some of the stores and shopping districts in Little Saigon, chances are you will … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Little Tokyo

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Little Tokyo (part of the fringes of downtown Los Angeles) is home to the largest Japanese-American population in North America. Markets, hotels, Japanese shops and plenty of little restaurants can keep one occupied for some time. Best to ditch the car and explore by foot as geographically Little Tokyo is fairly small. During World War II when the Japanese that lived here were forcibly moved to internment camps such as Manzaznar in … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Los Feliz – Franklin Hills

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Los Feliz & the Franklin Hills are perhaps names that probably do not come to mind when you refer to Los Angeles. They are little known outside of Los Angeles but these neighborhoods contain beautiful homes. Los Feliz Village is centered along Hillhurst Ave and contains a number of restaurants and boutique and unique shopping experiences. Parts of Franklin Hills feels like San Francisco. Numerous celebrities and actors live in these small two … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Newport Beach

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Newport Beach is located about 45 minutes to 1 hour south of Los Angeles. From downtown you would take the 110 South to the 405 South, to the 73 South, to the 55 West which runs right into PCH, Highway 1 in the middle of Newport Beach. Attractions here include shopping, especially at Fashion Island (an open air shopping complex) and touring the fancy homes on Balboa (a small lengthy peninsula just off the coast). During the holidays some of … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Thai Town

by Dave · 5 Comments

Los Angeles, CA - Thai Town is the center for the Thai Community in Los Angeles. The Thai population in Los Angeles is the largest community of Thai people outside of the Thailand. This region backs up against and in some cases blends in with "Little Armenia". Many Thai restaurants and shops are scattered along about a 1.5 mile stretch of Hollywood Blvd, just east of the 101. To get to Thai town take the 101 to the Hollywood Blvd exit and exit … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Torrance

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Perhaps Torrance is not the first city you think of when visiting Los Angeles - but when digging into the city's history and unique attractions you quickly find that this is a city worth exploring. While flight was invented by the Wright Brothers near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina - it is in Torrance that flight was developed as a commercial entity. A number of company headquarters are located here - it is ground zero for International auto … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Airports

by Dave · 3 Comments

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, (LAX) We continue to spend more than our fair share of time in this airport (as we often use this as our International or domestic connecting hub). LAX is located 15 miles southwest from downtown Los Angeles off of the 405 on the western end of the 105 freeway. This is the primary domestic and International airport for the Los Angeles metropolitan area serving thousands of passengers daily. LAX is currently … [Read more...]
