1,000 Words About Malawi

March 8, 2010 by Bernard PollackLeave a Comment

We spent a couple of amazing days in Lilongwe, Malawi - although it was cut short because we took an emergency flight back to Canada for the funeral of Bernard's grandmother (by the time you are reading this, we are back in Africa). We arrived after a long journey that started in Kampala, Uganda -- and there's nothing better than arriving somewhere new and having a great place to crash (at only $30 a night for a double). What makes a good … [Read more...]

Whale Warriors by Peter Heller A true Story. In 2005 author Peter Heller joined captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd during their time attempting to stop Japanese whalers from killing whales. The read is fast, intriguing and at times repulsive and sad. A must read for anyone interested in eco-adventure and wildlife conservation. … [Read more...]

Botswana Safari

December 12, 2009 by Melissa RobertsLeave a Comment

Where does a person go if she wishes to view the largest elephants in the world in their natural habitat? Botswana, specifically she would embark on a Botswana safari to Chobe National Park. This park is so enormous it can claim four separate ecosystems. There are more than elephants to view of course; the area has an impressive predator population that includes lions and hyenas. Another spectacular destination for a Botswana safari is the … [Read more...]

Holiday Travel Movies 2009, Up in the Air

November 23, 2009 by DaveLeave a Comment

(November 23, 2009) -- We recently attended a screening of "Up in the Air" at Paramount Studios in Hollywood featuring George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert whose "travel time" is threatened just as he nears his 10 millionth frequent flyer mile mark. This unfortunately occurs after he meets the woman frequent traveler of his dreams. This dramatic comedy was directed by Jason Reitman, the Oscar nominated … [Read more...]

Travel Guide To Ho Chi Minh City In Vietnam

September 14, 2009 by Julie Bowman1 Comment

Why should you visit Vietnam? If ever there was a reason to spend a holiday in Vietnam, it would be to immerse yourself in the Oriental Neverland whose possession changed the world. The once known only for its importance as a battleground for giant superpowers, Vietnam has emerged independent and flourishing with its mysterious spices and overwhelming architecture. The blending of European culture and Southeast Asian inscrutable charm is reason … [Read more...]

Sundarbans Tour, Bangladesh

September 1, 2009 by Dave4 Comments

The following is a description of a 4 day 3 night guided tour to the Sundarbans in Southern Bangladesh. This trip was taken in January during the winter season (cooler with pleasant at times warm days and cooler nights, but not too cold). The Sundarbans are the world's largest Mangrove swamp with the majority of this swamp within Bangladesh while part of the swamp is in India. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main purpose for most … [Read more...]

Egypt Uncovered

May 20, 2009 by Acacia Adventure HolidaysLeave a Comment

A vast expanse of sand stretched out before me, the fine soft grains covered in abstract monoliths of all shapes and sizes. For a moment, I felt as though I had been transported onto the film set of a "Star Wars" movie. All I needed now was my son's light saber and you could call me Luke Skywalker. The rock-strewn landscape glittered like gold in the midday sun, the harsh rays bouncing off the twisted structures. Eager to get a birds eye view … [Read more...]

The Terracotta Urns of Cuba’s Camaguey

May 15, 2009 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

"Camaguey is known as the city of tinajones (huge terracotta or earthenware urns). You will find them everywhere as you walk around town. They are a symbol of our city." Our guide smiled, then continued, "However, wives, beware! Do not let your husband drink from them! There is a legend that if a man takes a drink offered by a woman from a tinajone, he will fall in love with her and remain in Camaguey the rest of his life." In the bygone … [Read more...]

Gracias, Barcelona Policia

I had never stayed in a hostel before, and that was why I committed a cardinal sin when it came to booking a hostel room. Instead of booking a bed for one night and given myself an opportunity to see what the hostel was actually once I got there, I reserved - and paid for - a bed for multiple nights going by what I saw of the hostel on its website. (Please. Don't get out that wet noodle to give me a whipping just yet. There are more reasons … [Read more...]
