A day in Skopje, Macedonia

October 4, 2012 by Dave3 Comments

Author in front of massive Alexander the Great Memorial

Skopje is a very interesting city - I was here a few weeks ago but this time I actually had a little bit of time to kill and explore the city. 16 years is a long time but that is when I first met my 3rd online friend back in the mid 1990's - using a program called ICQ (precursor to a number of the instant message programs or built in SMS programs all over the internet these days). She is from Bitola Macedonia, now living in Skopje and we … [Read more...]

Exploring Bucharest

August 26, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

After a quick glimpse and walk around old town at 7am in the morning - this part of Bucharest seems to be old world meets construction zone. Apparently this part of Bucharest is seeing a revitalization of sorts - not sure where the money is coming from for this but there are a number of major projects in this part of town including businesses remodeling their own buildings in the middle of the old city. As someone I met last night mentioned, … [Read more...]

Venice Areas in Brief

August 8, 2012 by Hans BeltranLeave a Comment

Venice is an amazing old city with traditions dating back to ancient times. One, for example, dates back to 1711, when the city was divided into six "sesteri" or districts for tax purposes. Those districts have changed little since the time they were formed. Venice is an amazing old city with traditions dating back to ancient times. Jetting from Chennai to Bangkok

July 13, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

We jumped on our Air Asia flight last night from MAA-BKK. The route opened up earlier this year and we immediately seized the opportunity to buy severely discounted tickets during Air Asia's promotional period. We paid £89 per person for the round trip ticket - about 3.5 hours each way! Course with Air Asia you get a basic flight - no food or drink, seats that are agonizingly tight for tall people and most of the time a middle or window seat … [Read more...]

Meredith – New Hampshire

July 5, 2012 by Paul KandarianLeave a Comment

If you're at all familiar with the Lakes Region in New Hampshire, then chances are you know the town of Meredith. Or did know it. If you haven't visited the tiny little community on Lake Winnipesaukee in the past 20-plus years, chances are you wouldn't recognize the place. What was once a sleepy little mill town - where an asbestos factory once loomed and was mostly just a cut through to the White Mountains – is now a bustling tourist … [Read more...]

Up in Lisbon

June 19, 2012 by Hans BeltranLeave a Comment

One of the best ways to get to know the charming capital of Portugal is by walking without a fixed direction. So, even if you feel disoriented at first, you will always be gladly surprised with what you might find on your Lisboan way. To understand how to get located in the city, you just need to understand that as other large cities in the world like Rome, Istanbul or San Francisco, Lisbon was built on seven hills that explain its steep … [Read more...]
