Sprout Eco Friendly Watch

Travel Products > Accessories Reviews

January 15, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Sprout Watch (Reviewed January 2013) Affordable and Eco-friendly do not always match up in the same sentence – but they do when referring to Sprout watches. Sprout brings watchmaking into the current century for the environmentally conscious generation – their watches are biodegradable. The adventure watch we tested is contained in a case made of corn resin, the material behind the dial is natural bamboo, the strap is organic cotton and the battery is Mercury free. Now that’s an environmentally friendly watch!

With respect to nature and realizing we had the perfect upcoming trip for wearing our new watch – we tested this in the field in the remote highlands of Papua New Guinea. Rain, trekking, mud, and generally messy conditions made for a harsh testing environment.

The watch is not waterproof – but rather water resistant. We found it best to keep it as dry as possible to keep moisture from getting inside as in the very muggy and persistent rainy conditions of the Papua New Guinea highlands, moisture did get inside. However, it must be noted that we wore this watch in extreme conditions – for normal wear and tear this watch holds up nicely.

Sprout donates 1% of their total gross profits to an organization called 1% For The Planet – funds from businesses who participate in this are distributed to organizations protecting the environment worldwide.

Sprout has been making timepieces for more than 50 years.
