Mart expanded recently and moved from Piner Ave to
2481 Guerneville Road - this is now the largest
Asia/Oriental market in Santa Rosa. They have the best and
largest selection in town
of canned and dried Asian food products - as well as an
excellent selection of non western traditional ice creams.
Look for a number of refrigerators
and freezers lining the walls. Lots of fresh frozen fish. Phone

Lola's Market has two
supermarkets in Santa Rosa and caters predominantly to the local Hispanic
community. They have a very good selection of products from Mexico and a
nice
fish market. Both markets can be extremely crowded on certain weekends.
They are located at 1680 Petaluma Hill Road - Phone
(707) 571-7579 and also at 440 Dutton Ave. (at
Sebastopol Road), Santa Rosa; Phone (707) 577-8846
Each market has their own parking lot. |

Mekong Market - This Vietnamese run market has a good selection
of many Asian and Mexican food items but they have several problems. First,
they have signage indicating they will charge you a minimum of $10 to use a credit
card - some other cultural markets do this as well, but from research on
Visa and MasterCard's websites, this violates their credit card
agreements and you can notify the credit card companies about such
practices (if they actually enforce this upon checkout which we have
never tested). NOTE: We have had one unconfirmed report from a
rather rude email that their tight credit card policy is no
longer in place but we have not yet confirmed this for ourselves
and have not heard from this market directly. Next time we are
in Santa Rosa we will stop by this market. In addition, if you
use a debit card they will charge you $1 for this service. Talk
about unfriendly customer service. |

In our experience, their fish is not fresh - I've purchased fish
here, only to take it
out of the wrapping later and be overwhelmed with a strong iodine smell. Yuck.
Granted many markets have some problems with food inspections but they have had some fairly major problems during
previous food inspections (update - most of these problems have been
resolved - and we have had people write us who say they are perfectly
happy with the items sold and the service provided at this market). They are located at: 206 Sebastopol Road
not far from the Highway 12 overpass in Santa Rosa. Phone: (707) 544-6201 |

Phnom Penh
is located near between Santa Rosa Avenue and
Petaluma Hill Road at 923 Petaluma Hill Road (right
where Petaluma Hill road meets Santa Rosa |
Avenue. This is our favorite Asian market to visit when we are in Santa
Rosa although it is small it has an excellent selection of
products. This market is run by a Cambodian family and has a very good
selection of fruits and vegetables. In addition they
have several aisles of frozen, dried and canned Asian food
products. There is very limited parking and it can be somewhat
easy to bump into people while inside due to the space
limitations. Sometimes because of the cramped space there is
confusion on where the line starts. Depending on the season they
often have Logans,
Lychees, Rambutans, Mangosteens, Cherimoyas, Pomelo and other
assorted tropical type fruits. The selection of fruit is never
consistent - it all |
 |
| depends on the season when when their supplies come in. It was only a few years ago that the
closest one could get to these types of tropical non frozen
fruits in Santa Rosa was in your dreams. Nice how fast things
change. Friday is Peking Duck day. Phone

Thai Laos Market
is located on the west side of Santa Rosa Avenue
within about 1/2 mile of the Highway 12 overpass (415 Santa Rosa Ave).
This small market is run by a nice Laotian family - they have a good selection of
vegetables in the back but the highlight of a visit here are the several aisles of canned and dried Asian food
products. Also several refrigerators and freezers with other assorted
products.
