In the Know About Dating on the Go

March 14, 2023 by DaveLeave a Comment

Dating and traveling has always been a romantic possibility, and in the modern age of online dating, it’s easier to get involved than before. Dating on the go can be tricky, but if you are prepared your chances will be all the better for it.

The Universal Problem
When looking for a new relationship online, be cautious of any suspicious links and apps, which have the risk of malware. They may advance the relationship in ways you aren’t comfortable with, so wait until you get to know someone before taking any risks, just like in any other part of life. Luckily, as explained in this helpful article by ExpressVPN, these scams tend to take a few main forms, so learn what they are and you can protect yourself.

Online dating attracts scammers, thanks to how widespread and successful dating online is now. The most common types trick users into intimacy like sharing photos, which can be used as blackmail. These can be avoided by waiting until you meet in person before progressing your relationship.

Typical points of attack include prematurely asking for intimate photos or information, which can later be used for blackmail. If a bad actor is operating from another country than your own, for example, it can be much more difficult to track them down. Also popular are malware links, which can install harmful programs on a device without a user’s knowledge, again leading to a loss of personal and even financial information. Even entirely fake websites can be created to trap unaware users, where a bogus service could steal your identity and cause harm that might set you back years.

Be Honest
Regardless of what you’re looking for, there’s probably a match out there looking for the same thing, but for the best chance of success, everyone needs to be on the same page. Mixed messages here are often not even tied to honesty, as Gizmodo found, profile details are overlooked in favor of matching because of looks. Luckily, you can confirm everything before you go out, to avoid the potential for broken hearts and wasted time.

Understand the Customs
Even if somebody in another country shares the same language as you, this doesn’t mean they share the same understanding or appreciation of what you see as cultural norms. One of the most common ways this takes shape is when people forget about the tipping culture in America. Real Simple notes that tipping will vary depending on what you’re doing, but if you forget about it completely, you’ll be rude, which is a red flag for many.

By the same measure, you don’t want to go overboard and adopt an over-appreciation to a point that seems insincere. It’s always good to show an interest in the culture and life of the person you’re with, but acting completely differently to appease them is generally not going to pay off well.

It’s About Approach and Attitude
At the end of the day, dating in another country is mostly the same as dating back at home, just with a stricter time limit. It also means understanding the basis of security, where you should never share intimate details and photos before you get to know someone or click links if you don’t know what they are, even if they seem enticing. The same applies to websites, where if they seem too good to be true, they very much might be. Be careful, only use official apps from official vendors, and don’t share anything before meeting that you wouldn’t want to share with the world.

From here, it’s about respecting the other person and their boundaries and enjoying the experience as much as the destination. If nothing else, a good date can leave you with a lifelong friend, one who you can spend time with whenever you find yourselves passing by. And who knows what the future holds, maybe you could end up with something unexpected, or somebody to spend the rest of your life with.
