Visiting Frankfurt

May 9, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Vladimir-A-YaretsI’m not sure how it is that on recent flights every time I have been parked right next to a screaming baby. This latest one did not actually cry, but rather screamed a good portion of the 11 hour flight. No matter how hard the parents tried, this little fellow would not let up.

Upon reaching Frankfurt – I had 8 hours to kill before heading on to Verona Italy. I took full advantage of this window of opportunity by jumping on the S8 train to downtown Frankfurt. The train connects directly to the airport and the downtown and only takes between 10-15 minutes from the airport.

I just happened to randomly stumble into Vladimir A. Yarets – a deaf and mute motorcyclist originally from Minsk in Belarus. Vladimir really stands out – his large bike is decorated with many flags, descriptions of his travels and his motorcycle helmet for collecting change which he puts towards his gas fund. What is “random” about seeing him here – is 8 years ago I saw him in San Francisco California – parked and hanging out interacting with tourists near Fisherman’s Wharf. I even wrote a a very short unfinished blog entry about meeting him in 2005 (which was in my early days of using actual blogging software).

Vladimir communicates with a pad of paper and pen – when I wrote down that I had met him 8 years ago in San Francisco – he immediately pulled out a ratty photo album with dated photos of himself in San Francisco as well as my hometown from that same trip! How interesting to remember meeting him all that time ago and then seeing him here in Germany.
