Jarvis Bay – Kangaroo Valley – Dolphin Cruise

January 12, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Today we drove out to Jarvis Bay - about 190 clicks south of Sydney. We were expecting summer time temperatures and clear skies but upon arrival were greeted with heavy fog showers, wind and unseasonably cold temperatures. Needless to say, this made for a miserable picnic lunch (from the awesome Husky Bakery & Cafe in Huskisson Beach) and even more miserable swimming for those brave enough souls in the water. We swam with dolphins in … [Read more...]

More from Sydney…

January 8, 2013 by Dave5 Comments

This time of year is an extremely pricey time to be in Sydney (Sydney is not a cheap city to travel in regardless of the time of year) - the New Years Eve fireworks over the opera house is watched by 1.5 billion people around the world and visitors from the rest of Australia and around the world come here to see this annual event. The harbor and streets are all closed to traffic during this time - and the choice viewing spots near the Opera house … [Read more...]

Blue Mountains Australia

January 3, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

We jumped on the morning train to the Blue Mountains - ETA: 2 hours. Of all the money we've spent on everything in this very expensive city, this was by far the best value. $11.20 AUD RT. The mountain town of Katoomba was our destination; this country town is quaint with small B&B's, picturesque wooden houses and plenty of tourists this time of year. After a nearly 2 hour wait in excruciatingly painfully long line - we jumped on board the … [Read more...]

Hanging out in Sydney

December 29, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

We headed over to Sydney in the beginning of the week - arrived in the AM and checked into our hotel in Kings Cross (avoiding all the obviously drugged out characters who were weaving towards us on the sidewalks - screaming at each other and other general trouble making). Then we were on our way down to the Opera House. Within landing, clearing customs and checking into our hotel - we were in the botanical gardens on our way to sightseeing … [Read more...]

This event was held at NextSpace in downtown Culver City - this is a creative work environment/community that is open to members at any time. This "travel salon" featured four well regarded travelers - Andrew Bender, who writes the Seat 1A blog for Forbes Magazine, Sara … [Read more...]

December 22, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Lake Tahoe is one of the biggest lakes in the world (the 26th largest lake by volume) and by far the largest alpine lake in all of North America. With such a large amount of water in (and around) Lake Tahoe, there are plenty of opportunities for a good catch. Lake Tahoe is known for her crystal clear waters, and the fish that these waters entail. You’ll find mackinaw, kokanee salmon, rainbow and brown trout and largemouth bass to name a few. … [Read more...]

Benxi Water Cave

December 19, 2012 by Dave3 Comments

Today we visited the Benxi Water Cave - the temperature was about -9 Celsius outside while the inside of the cave was around 12 C - much more pleasant! This is the world's largest underground water cave system accessible by boat. Thousands of stalactites hang from the ceiling and the interior is lit up by both under water lights and lights near the ceilings. Beautiful eclectic pieces of stone line the riverbanks. The water is super clear and not … [Read more...]
