Al Dar Islands, Bahrain – July 2022

A trip out to these islands takes about 10 minutes from Sitra – an island within the country that is partially set aside for industrial use. Sitra is located about 20 minutes by car from the central part of Manama.

You come here for relaxation to enjoy one of several bucolic beaches that surround clear and calm waters. Park yourself on one of the beaches during a weekday (to avoid the often large crowds that descend upon the island during parts of the year on the weekends) and enjoy food or drink delivered right to your beach chair from the well stocked restaurant or bar. And if you enjoy smoking the water pipe, they have these available as well.

Or come here to enjoy any of a number of activities including snorkeling, diving, fishing trips, jet skiing or the more unique hunting for pearls (advance reservations needed). You don’t have to bring beach gear if you don’t want to – they have chairs, towels, snorkel gear and more available to rent. Clean bathrooms and showers are on site.

The bays off of the beaches are shallow and ideal for snorkeling. During a recent visit we saw a number of white fish swimming – as well as schools of tiny little black fish so thick in numbers you could not even see the ocean bottom.

Chalets are located on site and can be rented for day use or for overnight stays.
